hi, cody,
as someone who was a doctor for nine years but ultimately failed due to poor social skills, I caution you to think long and hard before going into such a people skills field. perhaps fire fighter might be better. or race car driver. perhaps high tension wire repair person. you could still get the adrenaline. eye contact is important if you want the people you'll be taking care of to trust you, for example.
welcome to WP.
Cathylynn I forgot to mention this but I actually do volunteer for a fire department! I am pretty knowledgeable in the EMS side of things even though I have no certs. I been on many calls. I handle the calls just fine, and I love helping patients. Since I am not an EMT or a paramedic I am kind of just an extra hand on scene right now. No anxiety during calls...
Hanging out at the station and not keeping busy can be brutal though... It's cool I can respond from my house. There's always two full time guys working though too and they are paramedics and EMT's/ engineers etc.
I forget to mention that in my intro! Yeah I don't think a doctor would be a good fit for me... I can hardly pay attention in classrooms and that's a whole lot of schooling too. I don't do well in class rooms.
That's so cool you were a doctor though. Reminds me... I am a major hypochondriac too.
