Just joined. Not sure quite how this forum works so this could be in the wrong place? I don't call myself Technophobe for nothing!

About me, if anyone's interested/curious: I'm a 53yo male who has been unhappy much of my life (not always - very rarely very happy). I realised only a few weeks ago, when trying to figure out why I always feel so overwhelmed with a neverending list of things I need to be doing or thinking about, that all these things are what count as everyday life for most people, who just somehow get on with it (and seem to fit loads of other things in too). That was a bit of a realisation.

I had wondered whether I might have aspergers a few years ago and read up a little, but felt it was inconclusive - I seemed to have quite afew symptoms but couldn;t be sure. Last week I did the multiple choice test and got 40. Tried again next day, answering instinctively, not thinking, the tried again, thinking really hard about the real meaning of what each question was getting at. Got 37 and 43. So, average 40. Looks like Aspergers is what I have, and why everything that seems to come so easily to others is such hard work! I feel relived in many ways because at least I have an excuse now. Not sure what else to think, but look forward to engaging on here.

Thanks Moomingirl, Nielson Wheels and Witch's Cat for your welcomes.

I posted a query on another thread somewhere but can't remember which one - I was asking where these lists of test scores/results come from, that are shown under some people's posts? If anyone can tell me where I can find these other tests I'd be very grateful, thanks.

If possible, try to get an official diagnosis so you'll know for sure.

Thanks for the further replies - I still can't find that test thread though. Could anyone please tell me where to look? Thanks.

Thanks for the link ComicRuss - exactly what I needed. I don;t think I'd have found it otherwise.

Links to tests 3 and 7 don't work. Test 1 doesn't seem to apply. The really long one (140-odd questions) I gave up on at about question 100 because the questions are so far out from my way of living they were becoming impossible to think of answers for (this test looks as if the questions were thought of in white-collar America in about 1960!).

The Baron-Cohen test I'd already done 3 times, average score of 40.

The HSP test gave me a score of 18

The Reading the mind in the eyes test gave me a score of 27 (normal range, it seems).

I don't know what tests so many people on this forum give results for as a default sub-line on their posts? (or whatever those bits are called?)?

I was diagnosed aged 46 so I understand your problem.
What I did was [in the UK] ask my doctor to refer me to a professional diagnostic person on the basis that I felt 'weird' and had been told I was 'normal' by mental health professionals yet continued to feel 'weird' and had test results done online that proved I may be autistic.

[Edit: Also like me, I have not too bad eye contact BUT I am now 48 and really have consciously developed that as I have developed hand contact. So it doesn't matter if some AS traits don't seem to apply to you.]
