I'm a 28 year old female, diagnosed with primarily innattentive ADD about 2 years ago. I've always been a chronic daydreamer - even my teachers noticed it when I was in school - but I got good grades so no one ever bothered to think there was more to it. Long story short, I may have fluked my way through school, but "real life" doesn't leave a lot of room for daydreaming and living with a constant feeling of "restlessness" tugging at your insides. Two years ago I finally got an answer. At least a partial one...

I recently found out about Asperger's syndrome. Reading about it, it was unbelievable, it sounded so much like me that it actually made my head swim. All the pieces that didn't quite fit ADD, fit here perfectly. I won't get into it all here, but everything from having trouble making friends, to stimming, to sensory issues, to taking everything literally - it just all fits.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to getting to know everyone!

Howdy

I would argue about us daydreamers. I think we move a world that would be happy just sitting there spinning in circles. Well, even if they are happy, I don't care to spin in circles. Space is big, really big.

You know, everything I thought I knew about myself has been turned upside down! Like, for example, I thought I couldn't stay seated at my desk as a kid because of ADD - but it's more likely it was because of sensory issues. I even read in one of the AS articles I found that kids with AS often can't remain seated in school. To this day, I hate sitting at a desk. I can sit on a comfy couch all damn day, but desks drive me mental - the feel of my clothes against the seat, the way my sleeves ride up when I reach for something, the way I can't sit on one leg or put my feet up, the hard, rigid back... uuugh!! !

And that's just ONE example... :?

Hi Erilyn. Welcome, and...

I'm another fan of your avatar...

Well, not me, actually... I want to steal it for my niece. She's a feyophile (I wonder if there is such a word, fairy-lover sounds awful).

Welcome,

It is a great discovery. Sorry, there is no cause or cure, that is just the way I am, I, and thousands of others I can relate to.

That was the issue for me, never met anyone like me, then landed here with thousands.

I do not mind my quirks, but never knew how lonely I was.
