Hi all,

Just found this forum whilst randomly searching the net. I dont have any kind of diagnosis, I work in an ASD provision attached to a primary school, and before that I was an ABA therapist for pre-school children with Autism. I am a firm believer that we are all on the spectrum somewhere, some more than others. The more I see at work, the more I realise I do myself. I suppose it's just that some people get diagnosed and others dont.

Thought it might be nice to get an inside view as well if that's ok?

Thank you, I am slightly nervous after reading some threads about people who try to 'cure' ASD.

You're trying to help people. That's different to forcing people into acting a certain way.

What interests me about that is that when I was a child and trying to work out what made me different from everyone else(age 7), I remember coming to the conclusion that people were made up of instinct and mind and that I seemed to be missing the instinct part.

Humph, guess so. Not much for being watched like I'm a tropical fish, or sumthin'.

I don't understand the problem. If you're coming here to help us or to gain a greater understanding, you'll be most welcome here. If you're trying to force us to conform, then you aren't welcome here. Pull up a chair, have a pint (or a drink of your choice) and get to know us. Have a lovely time here - you'll be most welcome. :)

Then why does your profile select "not sure if I have it or not"?

Welcome to WP (even if you are a pommy), but fix your profile. It would also be nice to know a bit more about you. You will see quite a lot about us.

Cheers

Bazza

I have put that in my profile because I honestly do not know. I see lots of myself in the children that I work with and I do wonder at times if I should find out for sure and get a diagnosis.

What would you like to know about me? I am happy to share.

Thanks for making me feel welcome by the way

I meant that people who work with children with Autism may be seen as the bad ones because they might be looking for a cure, and yes in a negative way. I will be quite honest, in my job Iam not looking for 'cures'. Looking for a cure suggests something is wrong, I dont agree with that. I guess I just want to understand and help the children cope with life, however horrible it can be.
