Hi, I am Becky and I have a wonderful husband who is about to retire from the Army and get a job in the real world.
We have an 18yo son who has ADHD but was never medicated. We chose to homeschool which worked great for him because he is so incredibly gifted and was able to chart his own course.
Our 15yo daughter is the one with Aspergers. She also has mild Tourettes. She is a joy to be around. Her biggest difficulties seem to be with processing what she hears. But we have recently had some success with adding fish oil to her diet. She is much more aware of things and likes how she can process thoughts when she remembers to take it. Otherwise, we hear "what?" over and over when we tell her things. She is very bright and knows a lot about proper care of many animals. She is currently reading Temple Grandin's book Animals in Translation.
Our 12yo son is is the hardest working kid I know. He loves physical labor. He is not so fond of school because he is dyslexic, but he is quite good at math. He has mild Tourettes as well. He is the first to make friends whenever we move.
We thought our 9yo would be our first completely NT child. She has recently started with tics but we are hoping, for her sake, that they are just transitory. She is our little dancer. I am pretty well convinced that she always has music going through her head. She has always been a quick learner, like her oldest brother and sister.
Our youngest (and last) is 2 and the 18yo was convinced from the time she was tiny that she was the smartest baby around. She amazes us with her vocabulary and humor already. She has been such a blessing to our 15yo with AS. The 15yo was in tears when she heard there would be a baby in the house. But once this little one started to be more entertaining, she just helped the 15yo to blossom. Big sister is so patient and gentle with the littlest one. They learn a lot from each other.
Hope you don't mind that I wrote so much. I was so happy to find this board. I visit a few others but I think this one will really help too. And I have learned a lot over the years so I hope I can be of some help too.
