I just discovered Wrong Planet a few days ago, and I thought I would introduce myself using the "Questions about You":

Age: 29

Location: Finland (Helsinki area)

Hobbies and Interests: computers, music, attachment parenting, sewing, cooking, languages

Why are you here? Looking for information and support

When were you diagnosed? Haven't been diagnosed yet, but I'm almost 100% sure I have AS.

Favorite music: just about anything from classical/opera to techno

Books: anything by Neal Stephenson, Playful Parenting by Lawrence Cohen, Dilbert books

TV shows/Movies: Veronica Mars, C.S.I, House, Mythbusters, Dr. G, Forensic Detectives, Kitchen Chemistry, National Geographic specials (especially anything about weather, geology, accident investigation, or forensic science)

Instrument: voice

Do you like sports? Only to play. My favorite is badminton.

Family: Married, 1 child. My parents and brother live in the USA.

Clothing: Comfortable and casual. I also have some nicer "work" clothes. What Not to Wear's style rules have been very helpful for learning to choose the right clothes for my body type and for dressing in a more feminine way.

How did you find this website? From browsing t-shirts on Cafe Press

Job: Technical writer

Welcome!

I like badminton too. Organising a game might prove a little difficult though, since I live in the UK.

Hi, Jackie!

Welcome to Wrongplanet!

I read that you are from Finland. Well, my ancestors are from Denmark! It's a small world, isn't it?

I like computers and music as well!

Enjoy it here!

It definitely is a small world, and in the Nordic countries it's even smaller. I should probably point out that I'm not actually Finnish, I just live here. I was born in Maryland, USA, and lived there until I ran away to Finland. My family's ethnic background in pretty extensive: my mom is 3/4 Polish and 1/4 Ukrainian. On my dad's side we have everything from Irish and German immigrants (also Pennsylvania Dutch) to a bit of Cherokee.

One thing I really like about Finland is that I find it a lot easier to fit in with the culture here. The average Finn would never dream of starting a conversation with a stranger (anyone that outgoing is assumed to be drunk, crazy, or a tourist). Silence is normal and expected in conversations (it's a sign of good listening), and small talk is generally seen as a pointless waste of time (if Finns have something to say, they say it).

Yeah, I don't think I could hit the birdie (shuttlecock) quite that far. ;)

Good lord... sounds like we all need to move to Finland.

Plus, Finns can drive like mad, which is a huge plus, imo.

Oh, right... welcome aboard...arrrrr!

Don't bother - at least I have enough problems here... of course it MIGHT be worse elsewhere.

This comes so late because I don't usually follow this category. Welcome, Jackie!
