Want to greet my fellow Aspies with a proper introduction so here we go.

According to my neuropsychiatrical coach a "typical high functioning Aspie woman", diagnosed at 41, 1,5 years ago. Having been the odd one out all my life, I'm suddenly "typical" Looking forward to that for a change!

I work as an architect, I always enjoyed drawing, buildings and all things 3D. But it's not the easiest profession for someone with Aspergers, having to deal with all kinds of people and leading teams of engineers. Wears me out a lot and the diagnosis has started me to consider alternative careers.

On my free time I enjoy movies, reading, crafts and archery. A sci-fi fan since childhood.

Finding out I have Aspergers has been a huge relief, no need to put myself down anymore for not being like other people. From now on I'm going to enjoy what I have and make the best of my Asperger related strong points.

What a wonderful, dizzying 1,5 years these have been! I always thought one should somehow reinvent ones life every 7-10 years, to keep things fresh and interesting. Having been "born again" this way, finding out I was autistic, has been exactly that. And then some! Really a beautiful gift, to see one self in a new light, with fresh eyes and finally accept yourself as you are

Many of us here are sci-fi fanatics as well. It sounds like you've really set an example for my own logistical profession. Your psych is wrong, you definitely don't come off as typical. I don't have any engineers at my disposal but I'm working on that one, right now I'm studying programming, I've worked as a software developer and my current goal is to move into IT, tech journalism or analyst work. Finland isn't the only place angered about the Nokia buyout, there's an N9 by my keyboard right now!

sounds like you enjoy more genres than just sci-fi. I can't read Austin - sentences too long - but I like the movies based on her books.

i'm 57, and discovered my autism 2 yrs. ago. as it did for you, it made sense of much of my life.

Good luck with your future plans, cberg Leading teams of engineers/other specialists can be daunting at the beginning, when your still young and don't have much experience. Given my dislike of being the center of attention, it's been difficult giving presentations, attending meetings etc. Best way of coping with that has been always being well prepared and doing my homework, in the best pedantic Aspie style. People see you know your stuff and start respecting you, even if you might not be the most charismatic speaker or leader character. And the more you do it, the easier it gets. You also notice that people you meet are only humans too, who don't know everything and make mistakes. That takes some of the pressure off too.

To cathylynn, yes I absolutely love Jane Austen! A weird combo, sci-fi and Austen Guess I'm a romantic at heart I'm getting the impression that there's a lot of Austen fans in Aspie women. There's a wonderful miniseries of Emma on a streaming site at this moment, I could send you the link if you want. Edit: crap, it can be watched only in Finland
