Hello everyone. I was officially diagnosed with Asperger's last week and it sure explains a lot about my life. My story is pretty typical with all of the social problems, etc. that Aspies seem to have. I also have Celiac disease which is what led me to discover I have AS. A lot of celiacs I know seem to have AS or is related to someone with it. Many of my celiac friends with AS encouraged me to look into this and I am glad I did. It is nice to know that there are many others out there like myself. I am a mechanical engineer by trade and fortuneately it is an occupation where social expectations are generally low.

I am 39, divorced and have one son. I have been visiting this website for a few weeks and it seems like a nice place to be.

Celiac is an auto immune disease that is genetic in origon. My immune system thinks that the gluten protiens found in wheat, barley, rye and oats are an invading pathogen. Classic celiac disease is considered to be the destruction of the lining of the small intestine caused by this auto immune system response. Other symptoms can be severe weight loss or weight gain. I once weighed 300lbs and now weigh 170. There can also be severe neurological problems and chronic fatigue. I used to experience what celiacs call "brain fog" so severe that I would black out for days. It is amazing I never killed anyone while driving. Now that all of that poison is out of my body I have mental clarity and energy that leaves "normal" people begging for mercy.

So far I have not seen anything in my son's behavior that even remotely resembles AS. He is nothing like me when I was his age at all.
