Hi there,

I've just joined and I thought I'd say hello. I'm from the south west of the UK and was diagnosed with ADHD and Aspergers a few weeks ago. The diagnosis didn't come as a total shock to me as I've always known that I was a little bit different to most although it didn't stop me crying a few times over the diagnosis.

Hey SparklyJacket,

Congratulations on the diagnoses and welcome to Wrong Planet! :) There's quite a number of UK folk around here, I'm sure you'll find a lot of resources and tips (if you want/need them).

Thanks. :D

Any resources and tips are always helpful. At present I don't know all that much about Aspergers or any coping strategies that people may have.

I'm sure you'll find plenty! :) The board search isn't always that great, but you should be able to find a lot of things by putting "[your issue] WrongPlanet" into the search engine of your choice. The individual subforums also have 'stickies' that contain lots of good information. :)

I was diagnosed two weeks ago. Now I know why I have felt different all my life and others have thought me eccentric. It explains why even with a high 170 IQ I also find boring topics impenetrable, and it explains why my career has sort of stagnated. It's relieving, you know? But now I am working with a therapist to help me make small talk, to be aware of my body posture and facial expressions, etc. I am hoping to make some friends on this blog and to share struggles. Peace.

BTW sorry if the above seemed "braggy" with the I.Q. The main point is that EVEN WITH THAT, I've been a social mess and it's hurt me.
