Hi everyone, I'm 17 and I'm from Belgium. I was diagnosed with giftedness (IQ 138) when I was 8. I was also told that I may have "light" Aspergers, although the centrum for student counseling (and my parents) like to focus more on the "gifted" part :? I'm pretty obsessively interested in pop culture, so that helps with the socializing (a little). I'm sometimes interested in science, but the fact that I sometimes have problems with math combined with my need to be perfect at everything has limited that. I've never met anyone with aspergers or autism, except for this one guy who had severe autism and was the complete opposite of me (not too bright, ignorant about the fact he's different, severely socially handicapped), so I made an account. So, any comments or questions? :)

Welcome! I always had issues with math, too, against the stereotype of the Aspie nerd. I was fine up to the point where decimals and fractions came into it and then when they started adding Alphabetic characters into the mix, my brain exploded - I'm extremely language-oriented and my brain will simply not accept Letters of the Alphabet in a mathematical equation. Letters represent SOUNDS, not NUMBERS. 8O

Hi, I read your introduction post and I'd like to know you know that we are kind of similar! I like movies very much and I guess it too is considered popular culture. Welcome to Wrong Planet.

My math issues came a bit later then that, I used to be fairly good at it, but now I seem to have hit a wall :? I "get" the math, but I always do horrible at tests because of my difficulties with problem-solving. I'm also pretty good with most things language-related, with the exception of anything that involves creativity :)

By pop culture I meant series, music and definitely movies too :) Any favorite directors?

I'm new too. Diagnosed this year at 50 years old. Never have talked to an aspie face to face either. I'm sure we are all very different from each other just like NT's we do share a common thread in that we are all AWESOME! Welcome
