Hi everyone,

My name is Aaron and I was diagnosed with HFA/AS when I was around 8 years old. I am currently in my final year of a law degree (soon to start my honours) at university. I love exercise and all things musical!

Unfortunately it took me 13 years to accept this diagnosis. In my mind I was convinced that I was neurotypical, possibly due to the misconceptions I had regarding what it meant to be autistic. I never had trouble making friends at school and from that I came to the conclusion that there way no way I could possibly have any form of autism.

After many years of denial, I decided to do some research and follow some blogs of people with autism. I found some really great resources out there and I discovered that there is far more to autism than just the 'making friends' part. I have now realised that my diagnosis was correct and many of the symptoms (both negative and positive!) of autism are indeed a big part of my life.

I hope to learn more about my condition and the sub-culture of autism and that's why I joined this board.

:)

I too wrestled with the 'label' for years. Pretty much all the same years in fact, although my diagnosis happened three earlier. If we're a subculture, we're a honking enormous one. The more discourse we have on this basis, the more we accept our true control of the culture that would seem to rest above ours, in the non-existent hierarchy of cultures.
