Gentlemen, ladies, and things, I bid you a warm and hearty hello for my first posting here on the WrongPlanet forums. I am Brendan O, otherwise known as Engineerbj here on the site, and here's a little bit about myself as a part of this introduction. Just to get it out of the way, I have a confirmed diagnosis of Asperger's Syndrome, although this was misdiagnosed several times.
I live in the State of Missouri in the United States (exact particulars I shall be keeping private, as will my full name and other such personal details), and I'm currently working on-again off-again in whatever comes my way to make a few bucks to support my interests and hobbies whilst working to complete my education.
Speaking of hobbies and interests, I have a plethora of them, namely Live-Steam model railroading and other train-related activities, for I find steam engines absolutely fascinating, with steam locomotives my all time favorites, although I like anything mechanical that will move as well, from ocean liners to putt-putt cars, although steam and other antique forms of transport and machinery are at the top of the pile. Besides these, some of my other interests include fishing, making wood-burned art, painting, drawing, vintage and folk music, sci-fi such as Star Trek and Dr. Who, and learning a little bit about everything (PBS's NOVA, the History Channel, and the Discovery Channel are real favorites when it comes to watching and learning.) I suppose you could say I'm a bit of renaissance man, with a finger in every pie of knowledge, although most consider me just old-fashioned and out of step with the modern world, which most consider odd since I'm not that old (no exact figures since that's personal info). Say whatever you like, but I'm rather disenchanted with the ways of the modern world. Sure, I love my computer and my smartphone just fine, and I'm not a Luddite or overzealous about my love of antiques, but given the choice, I'd rather drive a Model T Ford than a modern supercar, and I don't give a whit about what happened last night on American Idol or Survivor, or what some celebrity did the other day to embarrass him or herself.
Anyways, I reiterate my friendly hello to you all, and I'm looking forward to contributing to the forums, answering as well as asking questions, and maybe broadening my horizons and knowledge while I'm at it,
Cheers,
Brendan O.
