welcome. Check out the parents forum! it has a lot of good advice. Also check out the general discussion forum as you can see what aspies think about the issues.

Welcome Jacksmom....I am from MN also....it is a good time of the year to be snuggled up to a warm computer.I am 43 and all my kids have fur,(not genetic mutants, two cats and two bunnies)Since getting sons DX ,have you considered you or his father might be on the spectrum?A lot of parents find out they are after having a child DXed.

Home you enjoy the forum.

Welcome Jacksmom! I hope your son gets better and finds/makes a place for himself in this world. I heard someone say that it's perseverance and positive attitude that matters. It was a helpful statement for me. Being an aspie myself I feel that in some ways I can understand autistic people from a different and deeper perspective than people who are totally unfamiliar to the topic. I might even look for a career in special education. Anyway, your son will be able to make it...like so many others have...

Hi! Thanks to all for the welcomes! This is a wonderful outlet....we do belong to a great support group, but our son does have different issues than many of the families we connect with. I'm excited to learn all I can from anyone else who may be dealing with similar situations. Anyone dealt with strong non-comliance? Looking for help and understanding.

Hi jacksmom & welcome. Hope you've found your way to the Parent's forum, because you'll find a fabulous community of caring parents there :-)

My son was diagnosed with AS just recently. He's 4 1/2, and we've had lots of issues with non-compliance. But, we've been trying some things his developmental team recommended, and we're making gains. Every day is different though. And today was one of those days where he didn't "hear" most of the requests I've made.... so I chose my battles carefully ;-)

Looking forward to getting to know you!

non compliance u say????? oh yes..... i have learned as stated earlier to choose my battles and to BE PATIENT.... our counselor is showing me how to just not acknowledge the non compliance as u normally would just ok i am gonna wait for you to clean up the blocks .... etc..... however it doesnt work say for instance while running round in a parking lot...... sooooo choose the battle and then when u r out in the parking lot and not at home he becomes conditioned to compliance more.... at least it is slowly working out that way i believe.....and it has beeeeen a looooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooongggggggg hard struggle the last four years with this( this started to be a problem at the age of one)main thing is to choose the battles, there is more than one way to stay "in charge" , and at the end of the day remind him of when he did the right choice......
these of course are suggestions that work for me...... of course im still (after 4 years) getting a handle of what i am dealing with sooo u know i may be behind aa lil 8O

i also read somewhere too we have to remember there may be a reason for the non compliance like for example when i used to try to dress my son in the morning for daycare he would fight me so hard.... i had to go to work and didnt understand (didnt know at the time his diagnoses) it could have been the clothes bothered him or maybe it was the fact that he knew he was going to daycare where the teachers actually screamed at him all day hmmm but dont get me wrong there are more times than not he is jst not wanting to do what i ask

wonder myself if its because his world is so confusing and he doesnt feel like he knows whats what and that makes him want to buck it because when i started using visual aides for schedules he seem to get a lil better
