Hello everyone,
Please allow me a moment to introduce myself.
I'm a 32-year-old male from Western Europe. (Perhaps I will become more specific about my location once I've been around here for a while. I hope you do not mind.)
Last Summer I was clinically diagnosed with Asperger's, although the condition as such does not seem to exist anymore in the psychiatrist's handbook. The diagnosis came as a coincidence, being the result of psychological testing that was part of a treatment for OCD (= obsessive compulsive disorder), a disease I have been struggling with for over a decade now. Ever since, I started to learn more about Asperger's and I find that my diagnosis sheds new light on various mental difficulties that I experience. I'm eager to learn, and that is why I decided to join your forum.
In daily life I work as a researcher in applied mathematics, although sometimes my ability to work is hampered by the issues mentioned above. Apart from mathematics I really like computers (they are well-behaved and predictable ), reading 19th and early 20th century horror stories (e.g. Poe, Lovecraft or Blackwood), watching movies and playing poker for nickels and dimes. I'm blessed with a very understanding girlfriend, who does not always have an easy time with me.
Well, that is enough self-centering. I'm looking forward to any future discussions with you!
Best wishes,
Volterra.
P.S. Vito Volterra (1860 - 1940) was Italian, and a much better mathematician than I will ever be.
