Hello,

This is my first time using Wrong Planet. I am 34 year old male diagnosed with Aspergers Syndrome in 2009. I live in North West Tasmania and I am also a gay man. I would like to hear from any other gay Aspies around my age who live in Tasmania or South Eastern Australia but I wouldn't mind chatting to people from other parts of the world. My interests are Doctor Who, Trains, Natural Environment and Architecture/City Planning. I have been fascinated with maps since I was a young child. :)

Hi there :D

Not a gay man from Tassie, but I'm a straight woman from Brisbane. How's the weather down there? We've just come out of a scorching 40 degree week.

Funnily enough, I've noticed quite a lot of people who introduce themselves as specifically having an interest in trains, which I find quite interesting. I myself used to own a train set as a kid, which I loved.

Anyway, welcome aboard, and hope settle in nicely.

Welcome!

Hey! I'm from the U.S. Like you, I have had (from a very young age) an unusual, intense fascination with maps, and so it's good to meet someone else with that same, unique interest! (My parents were always like, "Why does he memorize geography?" and my teachers were like, "Please, PLEASE do a book-report on something besides a travel book!" (So, I get what you're sayin'!)

I am brand-new to this site (January 1st) AND brand-new to Asperger's (about three months-ago). I'm 38 yrs-old and, although I'm not gay, I do greatly appreciate the tremendous musical contributions of several gay musicians, such as Rufus Wainwright and Elton John. (They are two of my favorite musicians.) I also appreciate Freddie Mercury's (Queen's) music. I'm a drummer. I'm learning guitar. My mother's an accomplished pianist (was a child prodigy). My dad plays sax.

Anyway, welcome (again)!

Hi raxocorico12,
Welcome to Wrong Planet :)

We, the people on the Autistic Spectrum have a choice.
We can either try to "fit in" with the rest of society, or we can be so egocentric that we can't be bothered.
I choose the actor. I observe NT's. I listen to their socializing. I practice it, so in social situations I can just emulate/mimic what is expected.
It isn't natural for me, but it enables me to "fit in".
It is VERY tiring and draining, but at least we can appear like them even though it is an act. Like being on the stage.
They can't see it is emulation, and so we are accepted.
