Hi.

Not really sure what to put.

I was diagnosed with an ASD ~6 years ago, as an adult. I've had a lot of other diagnoses, most psychotic or mood related, but they haven't stuck. I've always seemed odd to others (or so I'm told), but over the last few years it seems like the gifts that come with the oddness have become more apparent to people. Takes time to grow into a brain, maybe.

I studied art; I used to think I wanted to be an artist, but lately I've started to veer off toward an interest in art therapy and writing.

I like black metal music, but I only listen to it with the volume turned low.

Reading the forums, the communication seems comprehensible. I don't have that experience most other places.

I have a continual processing backlog. I feel physical pain from stimuli that the people around me seem to hardly even notice. Can't clear the sensory inbox in real time.

Art therapy sounds pretty cool. Are you going to study it so that you can use what you learn to give back to others?

That's the plan. It's something to work up to, though, because graduate art therapy programs usually require more than just an undergraduate degree. I'd like to do some mental health peer support work, or similar, to begin with, but I'm not in a position to begin that immediately either. I'm working on it.

I am an occupational therapist by trade on top of being an aspie. You will surely be surprised that there actually is a lot of arts and crafts stuff in my field, too... whether it's in the school system or mental health settings. But anyway, I will say try to volunteer at a mental health hospital or something like that. Then, you can see if that really fits you.
