Hello all,

I am a college student looking for a research topic. I would like to know if anyone in Wrong Planet would be willing to participate in a study about diversity/identities among people with autism. I am not asking for consent now I am simply testing the waters to see if I could really get enough people to participate. It would have to be totally anonymous and uncompensated. Questions in the study would pertain to race, ethnicity, gender, sexual identity, class, cultures... How about it eh?

Would it be more of a benefit to our community to explore culture and lifestyles? the reason I am interested in this is because I feel like people with autism can and should speak for themselves. I'm just trying to amplify the voice.

Thanks for your response. As I continue my research I am thinking that not only do I want to study demographics but also I would like to know if individuals have received services/therapies such as ABA, speech, and OT, and how they have affected people with autism. I would like to see this from the perspective of the individual as opposed to the perspectives of parents, teachers, and other professionals who work with people that have autism (which is far more common in peer reviewed scholarly journals). I think it is not only a cool idea to get the perspective of the person who got the therapy, but I think it is absolutely necessary at this point if these therapies are to continue to be such widely accepted treatments for autism.

I'm afraid then that I probably won't be much use to you as I have received scant services. I had to largely tough things out on my own.

No problem, I think I could incorporate individuals who didn't receive services as a basis for comparison. I am still working out the kinks of this project but I really appreciate your feedback.
