Greetings all. 8)
I'm elkie and I live in PA. My teen son has only recently been (loosely) diagnosed with Asperger Syndrome or on the spectrum, whatever the accepted phrasing is this year. :? Nonetheless, a formal diagnosis is in the works, as his GIEP has failed to appropriately address his unique needs.
I feel draft for not realizing sooner that he has AS. Because I'm also gifted, I assumed that I understood him and that I'd been empathizing with him in his struggles as an intelligent person in a world full of stupid people. Sadly, the world through his eyes is far more complicated.
He's joked with me lately, suggesting that I have AS, too. One diagnosis at a time is what I always say. 8O
I'm sincerely hoping to find a sense of community here. Goodness knows, I don't have that in the real world when it comes to my son. Though my friends are supportive, no one understands what it's been like. I also have a teen daughter...but that's another story.
