Hi, my name is Carla, I think I am new. I might have been here a long time ago. I am on the autism spectrum. I go to college and drive and do everything else that most of us people on the autism spectrum can do, but the trouble have always had is making friends. Sure I have acquaintances or people I see and talk to at the sports I do, but it never leads to anything. I would like to be able to make friends and have people to hang out with like to go bowling or go to movies with or hang out somewhere, but nobody ever seems to ask me to do anything with them, and the problem is people I ask always say no because I live too far away or something like that. I have been involved with Special Olympics for 6 years, but have thought sometimes about if I really belong competing in sports with these guys, because I can drive, go to college, and have a really good paying job and don't meet many people there who can drive, go to college, or have a good paying job besides the coaches and unified partners, maybe a few but not many, plus just I am a really good athlete and am actually going to nationals for track for the Special Olympics, will be going in June to New Jersey to represent Team AZ, which am excited about though too at the same time, but truth is I want to be normal and start getting involved in more regular activities, have been participating in a normal bowling league and have made acquaintances there but hasn't lead to anybody asking me to do anything outside there either. I hope am not the only one who wants to be normal but can't seem to get accepted.
