Hello everyone! Long time lurker, fist time poster here from around Canada's National Capital Region. I was diagnosed with Asperger's at about age 11 or 12 (was previously misdiagnosed with ADD/ADHD at the height of the Ritalin craze in the mid-90s), and living with it has been a challenge in many ways, but I've accomplished a lot of things that even I thought I couldn't! Things like being a college grad, employed full-time in a field I enjoy, and married - never in my wildest dreams did I ever imagine wedding bells in my future, until I met the woman who is now my beautiful, wonderful wife. She's a schoolteacher, and she's worked with a number of kids on the spectrum - she says being with me has helped her better understand them, especially those with AS.
AS isn't the only condition that's hit me... two years ago I was diagnosed with depression (MDD), which I'm still dealing with today but feeling noticeably better than earlier after the diagnosis. I also frequently experience anxiety/nervousness and what I thought were signs/symptoms of bipolar disorder, but my mental health counsellor ruled out the possibilities of BP. Mood disorders, particularly anxiety (GAD) & depression, sort of run in my family.
I'll be sticking around the forums from time to time, and may even join conversations. Great to be here!
