An introduction and a few questions:
Hello, I'm nearly 31 and I have begun to suspect I may be autistic or at least have several tendencies there. I've known all my life that I'm a bit "weird", "odd", or "eccentric". Feel free to pick your preferred moniker. I can definitely relate to the "stranger in a strange land" feeling though social interactions are a bit easier for me now than in the past. I have a 5 year old niece who has been diagnosed and I would call her "classically autistic" though verbal. Below are my scores to a few of the online aspie tests I've taken:
RAADS-R: 129.0
- Language: 13.0
- Social Relatedness: 65.0
- Sensory/Motor: 17.0
- Circumscribed Interests: 34.0
AAA
- AQ: 36
- EQ: 19
- RQ: 15
Aspie-quiz
- Aspie score: 130/200
- NT score: 72/200
My biggest question for those that have pursued a diagnosis, especially in adulthood: Is it beneficial/worth it? I'm a graduate student and I feel certain aspects of myself that could be explained by an ASD are severely impacting my ability to succeed. It took me 7 years to get my Bachelor's. I get bored easily and am constantly shifting my focus to new interests. I also find it hard to relate to others. Starting and finishing assignments is extremely difficult for me unless I have a vested interest in the material. So much more I could write, but I'll save the soliloquy for later. Thanks for responses!
