Thought I would join since I have been told by coworkers, family my kids and ex boyfriend that they totally believe I have aspergers. Of course after I finished my masters degree and am in serious student loan debt. Work full time and excel at everything except social and communication skills. I work hard to master that as well; however, tend to mess up often - unintentially. Make people very angry. :( Even upset my brother once where he wouldn't talk to me for 2 years. It's been rough. I wouldnt doubt I have this. Am diagnosed with adhd and medicated yet meds don't work completely.

One thing is for sure - I do not like to socialize. Prefer video and facebook games non stop - addicted and am completely ocd with food. Same thing every day - routine, etc. Hopefully I can find some resources here to find better coping skills.

Hi AZprofessional,

Welcome to WrongPlanet :)

We, the people on the Autistic Spectrum have a choice.
We can either try to "fit in" with the rest of society, or we can be so egocentric that we can't be bothered.
I choose the actor. I observe NT's. I listen to their socializing. I practice it, so in social situations I can just emulate/mimic what is expected.
It isn't natural for me, but it enables me to "fit in".
It is VERY tiring and draining, but at least we can appear like them even though it is an act. Like being on the stage.
They can't see it is emulation, and so we are accepted.
