Hi I have been lurking, but now a member.
I joined because I struggle with social situations, all social situations. I use to worry constantly about my behaviour in social situations and beat myself up when i had a 'social mishap' but thats not the case anymore. I still have no friends though so I am here to observe and learn from what others have to say.
I don't think I will post to much but I hope to learn much here.
Also as an adult I do work, people seem to put up with my office 'quirkiness' for the fact that I am one of few that is actually reliable and turn up on time.

Thanks for the welcomes. And yes I try to focus on the positive traits I have now, rather than the pine over the negatives.

There may be negatives about Asperger's but there are positives too, as you pointed out. I like to think that I am my boss's most trustworthy, predictable worker. Always on the job. Always ready to work where I'm needed. The love of sameness, used to advantage.

Welcome.

Welcome to the forever alone club!

MY only friends are my ex wife , my son and my stepson from that marriage .

I don't live where I grew up though so that's my biggest barrier when it comes to friends... and the fact I seem incapable of making any as an adult due to social phobia

also I don't work so that's a big problem when it comes to meeting new people too :(

Hi Onama,
Welcome to Wrong Planet :)

We, the people on the Autistic Spectrum have a choice.
We can either try to "fit in" with the rest of society, or we can be so egocentric that we can't be bothered.
I choose the actor. I observe NT's. I listen to their socializing. I practice it, so in social situations I can just emulate/mimic what is expected.
It isn't natural for me, but it enables me to "fit in".
It is VERY tiring and draining, but at least we can appear like them even though it is an act. Like being on the stage.
They can't see it is emulation, and so we are accepted.
