Just joined up! I'm a twenty-one year old Canadian living in Victoria, BC. My diagnosis is PDD-NOS (pervasive developmental disorder, not otherwise specified). Unfortunately as a kid this led to me being ostracized for strange interests (trains primarily) and then also falling behind in regular subjects due to genuine lack of interest. Fortunately when I was in high-school I had a very good case manager who helped to motivate me to do much better and work on my social skills, which helped out a great deal.

I spent the last year employed at my local Safeway store. Unfortunately it didn't go so well when I had arranged a vacation on the very week that the store-changeover took place from Safeway to Save-on-Foods. Long story short I lost my job because of this, and I'm not eligible to file a grievance with the union because I effectively 'quit' my job in their eyes as I went on my trip anyways despite the fact my time-off request wasn't granted. Honestly though I told my manager I was going on the trip anyway two-weeks before my departure and he said he needed time to think about it. After two weeks he said he could not give me the time off and I reminded him I was going anyway, which he interpreted as me quitting my job. It's just upset me though because although the job was stressful, most of the customers liked me and my co-workers were a friendly bunch.

Moving on from that... you might ask - why a fox? Honestly I have no idea. But going into one of my hobbies is I'm a part of the furry community. We're a bunch of people from all walks of life who like to dress up in animal costumes and attend special events for us all over the world. I hope to be getting my costume for September this year, just in time for the convention in Seattle, WA.
My special talent in the furry fandom is that of a writer. I love writing stories, particularly about my 'fursona' and his friends. I may share some of these if anyone is genuinely interested.

Welcome Friend :) I'm also a furry but I don't have an interest in dressing up - I just like to read and write furry stories (especially Chakat stories by Bernard Doove and Alan Fesler! obscure, i know) and draw furry characters. And I'm a new aspie to wrong planet too. I have a chakat fursona and a few original characters including a fox girl and a foxtaur girl ^__^ foxes are so great! I think my interest in furries probably started when I was about 6 and I loved watching Disney's Robin Hood (you know the one with the foxes :D ).

I can understand that... I had a similar experience with the Animals of Farthing wood series and all the foxes in that (red and blue).
I didn't have an interest in dressing up either, but upon meeting fursuiters at the eleven conventions I've attended over the past two years, it sorta grew on me and now I find myself mimicking their cutesy paw movements and everything... plus the hugs, oh they're so amazing. So now I really know I wanna be one.

I just checked it out on wikipedia, and Animals of Farthing Wood definitely looks like the kind of thing I'd have loved growing up.

Also, hugs are the best ^__^
