Hi everyone. I'm a 31 year old engineer from the midwest US. I just realized that I likely have AS a few weeks ago. I've been reading up on it like crazy and the more I see, the more convinced I am. I've started looking into getting diagnosed, but everything around me seems to have huge wait lists. I'm still sort of reeling from the discovery. It sometimes feels like I have to reevaluate almost every interaction and relationship I've ever had. Anyways, I thought this would be a good place for information and support while I'm waiting for the diagnosis process to work out.

Anyways, I'm into gaming, technology, and photography. I look forward to getting to know some of you.

Welcome!

While you wait for a diagnosis, you might want to explore one or more of the University of Cambridge Autism Research Centre http://www.autismresearchcentre.com/ screening tests. The Autism Spectrum Quotient (AQ) test is the primary test, and several others are its factor tests. The tests are free, downloadable, printable and easy to score using keys.

Welcome to WP! :)

What platforms do you play gaming on?

I mostly play Xbox, though sometimes play Nintendo DS and PS2 also.

Sooner or later, like myself, you'll find yourself preoccupied with the levity of already having dealt with most symptoms. We're very similar, yet diagnostically opposites.

Thanks for the link. I actually took the AQ several years ago after my wife suggested it, but only scored a 28 and didn't look into it any further at the time. After some recent events in my life, I started looking into AS as a possible explanation. I read on the Asperger's subreddit that the AQ had a high false negative rate and they recommended taking the RAAD-S. That one put me well above the threshold and pushed me to do even more research. I've done several more tests since then that I've found here and on other sites. At this point though, I think I'm done with self administered tests. Most put me as positive or borderline positive for AS/ASD, but all of them tell me that their results are essentially meaningless. I don't see anything further to gain from doing more of them that aren't administered by someone who can give some meaning to it.

The thing that's really convinced me is reading the stories from other Aspies. I see so much of my life in them. Not just in generalities, but in the little details too, and across all areas and ages of my life. I picked up "The Complete Guide to Asperger's Syndrome" and reading through the sections on childhood friendships and bullying brought up years of repressed memories.
