I'm here because my DD15 has recently been diagnosed with ASD/Asperger's. Her struggles have been time-consuming, frustrating and heartbreaking. I'm interested in knowing more about her so that I can help her succeed in every way possible, even though her preferred outcomes may be different than mine.

She is an only child who was recognized early as gifted, so I thought her difficulties were a result of "only-child" syndrome and common eccentricity and introversion of gifted children. Now that she is older and we finally have diagnoses (ADHD, Panic and Anxiety disorders, along with ASD), she is opening up and trying to tell me what her world is like.

We are very close and always have been, but she's never been one to share her feelings. She shares her thoughts constantly ... on books, movies, tv shows, music, etc, but there's always been a lack of knowledge, to me, of who SHE is; how she thinks, feels, gets through the day, etc. She rarely shares personal information, rather facts about her interests.

She is the most fascinating, beautiful, smart and articulate person I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. I just have a very hard time relating to her. I'm here to make that happen :D
