Hey there everyone,
I'm a Neurotypical from Portugal. Joined the forum because I'm interested on hearing different perspectives.
Starting year 5 as a Medical student in a couple of weeks. Nevertheless, I find Medicine utterly boring. I'd rather indulge in Maths or Philosophy. I also love Classical and Video Game music and play classical guitar.

Looking forward to meet you all.

Welcome!

I find medicine incredibly diverse and infinitely interesting. You constantly learn things that you didn?t even think were possible, it?s universal and has such a wide range of opportunities and challenges that you can engage in with regards to research, volunteer work and specialization.

If you?re fifth year I assume you?re still going to pursue a career in medicine? But have you considered switching to maths or philosophy? I think people are always better off studying and working in an area that they are passionate about and that is meaningful to them. They?ll be able to contribute most to that area (and their clients) because they have the intrinsic motivation to consistently improve their professional skills and do their absolute best. And usually if a person is really miserable in their job, it shows. And affects their work performance accordingly.

There seem to be quite a few Portuguese people here, there?s even a stickied thread in Portuguese in the languages section if you want to talk to your own people (and people from Brazil). :D

Unfortunately, the economic status of my country has led me to study Medicine in order to ensure some added security. Then I was still interested in Biology in general, but then it got boring as I learned more and more. It's all a bunch of hypothesis to be tested by statistics. You do get your creative times, but, other than that. Meh.
I did spend some good summers doing lab rotations, and had quite some fun with it. It's clear if I pursued a career in Medicine, I'd be pursuing research.
Even so, I am considering switching to Maths or Music as soon as I finish this. As for passion stirring my attitude towards patients, I find it that I don't need it. I am naturally worried about people, as long as they seek my help.
