Hi everyone. Have been enjoying this sight and all its info for a while, but first time i've posted anything. Have only recently discovered that i am almost definately an aspie !. I started reading about aspergers after my son was diagnosed ADHD. When i was reading about the characteristics of an aspie, it was if they were writing about me. Suddenly it all makes sense. I was in total shock for a while but also relief that i'm not goin mad. At the moment am trying to decide whether i should try and get a diagnosis ?. Would be happy to hear if anyone has any advice. Brilliant site with nice friendly people.

Hello!

Whether you want a diagnosis really depends on whether you think it'll help or hinder your life. For example if you're finding things difficult then a diagnosis would lead to medical assistance and hopefully a greater understanding of your problems at home and at work, if you choose to share the findings with your family and/or employer.

On the other hand if you are doing ok then bear in mind that a diagnosis might limit your future options, particulary career choices. All the time you don't really know, there's no obligation to put anything in writing.

I would say no. The range is so broad I have never found a matched pair here. A Professional Dx will say you have it all, which is never true.

Only one person in my sixty years shares my view on music, found here, and a quarter my age.

I find a lot of partial fits, a general openness, and the dialog explores the range of all issues. No right and wrong, always a spectrum, and finding where you fit is educational. Sometimes change is in order, but first you have to find yourself. "Know Thyself," then make rational changes.

Only in the last ten years have Professionals read about this, it might have been part of a week spent in study of the whole area. We all have a lifetime of insider knowledge. We also have family histories, sudden insights into the behavior of family members.

If it was one thing, and it got worse, and there was effective treatment, treatment might be in order.

It is a thousand things, the dinos say it gets better, and AS has no cause or cure. Many related non-AS conditions can be treated, some like a pill for everything, I am still waiting for the spelling pill, others find that seeing it in others, understanding why they feel as they do, causes doubt to evaporate, and with it unreasonable fears and stresses.

WP is an advanced form of non-directed learning, it is the means by which humans gain the most information, and sort it beyond concious awareness. The technical term is "Play."

Welcome to the Playground.
