hello all!

I am a twenty year old male college student on the east coast of America. I was diagnosed with Asperger's syndrome when I was quite young. Luckily, with years of therapy, I can interact with others quite well (at least with casual conversations, it's relationships that I have trouble maintaining. If only human interaction was as simple as a charming and witty ice-breaker...). I enjoy playing music including metal, rock, jazz, soul, classical and funk on such instruments as Trumpet and Guitar. I also enjoy acting on stage and in films (currently working on one right now), and have been told that I have great stage presence. I also love to travel around the world.

I have come to this forum to connect with other people like me and to learn more about myself. I hope to learn new techniques to help me better socialize with others and more. I look forward to sharing stories and talking with you all.

Hi all.
I'm a speech-language pathologist and I have a couple people on my caseload with the diagnosis of Asperger's. I am often on the lookout for resources to help me plan sessions that will be effective, which is why I was thrilled to find this site. Thank you, Alex!

My question is: has anyone reading this felt as if you were doing just fine and that it was the rest of the world that needed to figure things (read: you) out? I'm struggling with the idea of doing therapy with someone who doesn't see/want/care about working on social language skills.

I just do not know how to approach therapy if the person doesn't think he or she needs to be there (it's more mom and dad).

Thanks for reading and any thoughts would be appreciated. As a neurotypical, it is important to me to try and understand the perspective of someone with Asperger's and I figure this is a good place to start.

You may want to start by working on your own computer social skills...like interrupting someone elses introduction thread is sort of frowned on and considered poor manors.Social skill#1.....start your own new thread about this topic.

And to the original poster...welcome,sounds like you have made a lot of possitive choices in your life, you hardly sound AS at all. What kind of therepy did you have.(I cant imagine enjoying traveling....thats what the travel channel is for)

Sounds like you are doing well. We can learn to get by, I find travel helps, for we are all off base somewhere else, and my learned coping skills come out, when mainstream people seem suddenly AS about it.

As for deeper meanings, I think they are faking it. Everytime I look behind the curtain, I find a con game. Women love money and security. Ugly old guys make out fine if they are rich.

Most middle aged people who wind up in therapy say they do not know who they are because they have been living a lie for so long. We figure out who we are in time. We are just delayed, we do get there, and at fourty most say the social game is a fraud.

I learned from a master, the Monk on Inayasu, he said, "The secret to being irrisistable to women is complete indifferance."

It is possible the poster got confused entering here from the front page where certain new threads are shown... it has happened before. I am sure it was no deliberate, it would be kind of pointless to post your own intro in someone else's thread.

Welcome to WP HolyDiver!! !!

I also like acting in film, but I prefer it to acting on stage. Plus I love to travel, even though I have yet to leave the North America.
