Hello, i have been reading this site for some time and finally broke down and opened an account so i could post. Realized i have not introduced myself so hi, all. :) Found some good information but has been forever since i have chatted with ppl on the internet. I am trying to figure out, again, all the rules of internet conversation etiquette and hoping i don't make too many blunders (always a fear for me even when there is not face-to-face chatting because no matter how hard i try i seem to always mess up). Here on this site, it looks like i can be honest about that.

Have a family member diagnosed with HFA and began researching autism for their benefit. Also in helping my family member, i am understanding where some of my difficulties come from. Which is a blessing to know, but sometimes not terribly useful; in most of the circles i move in, ppl look at an autism/aspergers diagnosis as, "Um, yeah, but your point is?" So as much as anything i am here because it is a relief to read about others' experiences and find commonalities with my own.

Well, nice to meet you ppl and have a good one, all!

Um, yeah, interests and stuff about me...guess one does that in introductions, huh? I love reading. Stuff i like to read--fantasy (J.R.R. Tolkien, C.S.Lewis, George MacDonald, Stephen King--Dark Tower series is awesome), biography (any person who looks to me to have had an interesting life; lots of Hollywood biographies; but all time favorite biography is "I Married Adventure" by Osa Johnson), some fiction but pretty selective (L.M. Montgomery, the Prey series by John Sanford).

I love to sing--one of my special interests is teaching my kids to sing acapella. I grew up in a Mennonite church that sang acapella every week. But we no longer attend there and it made me sad to think that my kids might not learn the beauty of 4 part harmony. My kids each have a good ear for music and i enjoy teaching them to sing various parts. I love to play the piano but not in public. Just for me and sometimes a few family or close friends.

In mundane boring and random stuff, I usually do the mom thing of taking care of my family; and also work part time at a local historical center. I love the environment there--very aspie friendly as it is quiet and allows for interesting research. I also make a mean batch of chili and my hubby and i can carry on a conversation made up almost entirely of quotes from the Simpsons. (One time i told him he was a cross between Homer Simpson and Al Bundy and he referred to it as "best compliment ever!")

We have a chorale in our area too; and i would love to sing in it some time. My kids sang in the youth chorale through the same organization and they put on a great show. However, due to the mom stuff...i don't really have time to do it right now. In a few yrs maybe.

I love singing! I often sing when I'm doing housework.

I'm in our local chorale, too---which you may have guessed from my user name (although I'm really a baritone, not a bass).

It's a lot of fun. I hope you can free up your time enough to join yours.

Basso53, I hope so too. Music gets me through a lot of hard stuff. If i can't sing, i know i am really in bad shape. i went through a deep depression a few yrs ago when i could not sing or listen to music for about 3 months. Also stopped talking except for necessary stuff...if i can't talk and can't sing, i know it is really bad. My oldest has a beautiful baritone/bass--somewhere between the 2. It has been a lot of fun to watch his singing go from soprano to baritone/bass. He is still pretty young for such a nice smooth bass voice--he is 14--so he gets some surprised looks when ppl hear him sing for the 1st time.

Kuraudo, i will think of you when i crank the music and clean house or do dishes. :) I keep a radio/cd player or ipod in my kitchen to make dishes and cooking easier.
