Hi! I'm a 54 year old man living in the UK. I was diagnosed Aspergers earlier this year. In my view the stress of being undiagnosed for most of my life has lead to my mental health problems. Indeed it has only been in my mind that I might be autistic since this time last year. I hope to meet fellow Aspies from around the world to chat about music, science or ASD.

Welcome, and glad you found your way to WP. Like yourself, I am an older member and there are others here who will readily relate to your experience of late discovery, and the huge readjustment of self-awareness and re-evaluation of past experience that goes on for "later-lifers". There is often pain and grief in the early stages of this, sadness for time lost, missed opportunities, being haunted by memories of times when you were misjudged, mislabelled, disrespected, hurt.. this passes; it's an important stage though, of integrating the old information about the Self with the new information. Out of that integration process comes new perspectives and hopefully, new appreciation of your strengths. Also, perhaps bear in mind that as someone who has survived over half a century as an unaware person on the spectrum you must have some tremendous inner strengths that perhaps you never before gave yourself credit for.. I hope you enjoy your time at WP.

Welcome to the club my friend! I too have been going through the system to get answers as earlier this year i was suspected diagnosis on the spectrum, i have now seen three so called ""professionals"" whom have all mentioned that i seem to be on the spectrum but yet don't seem to want to give a diagnosis, mentioning they don't want to give labels, despite me trying to explain it is not about the label but to understand more about who i am and how i fit into this world and to allow some relief, but yet alas after going blue in the face they just seem to change the conversation, so have decided to do my own research and look for professional individuals that have experience in this field as it seems from the onset that those i have seen thus far have no idea what they are talking about and most of the time i am showing them proof of their own tunnel vision and misguidance... At 39 , i hear how you feel! Again welcome :)

Welcome Road Rat......
It was by "accident" I suspected I was in the spectrum. Online tests made my suspicions even stronger, and finally I had a professional evaluation.
This explains a lot of the way my life has developed, so that is good. Honestly after several years of the initial suspicion, I'm still on the rough road, but its getting easier.
Welcome

Yes, I'll back that, for me knowing about it makes it easier.
