Hello, fellow Wrong Planet members. I'm new to this website, although I had intentions to make an account for a while. My name is Gina, and I'm a blogger/volunteer/student from New Jersey. I happen to have Asperger's Syndrome, although I don't consider myself disabled. I just thought I'd start a new conversation.
Here are five facts about me:
1. I may seem cold and reserved when you first meet me in real life, but I'm warm and affectionate once I open up to you.
2. I'm obsessed with Doctor Who.
3. I'm terrible at math, contrary to the "Rain Man" stereotype.
4. I'm a vegetarian, mainly because I'm bothered by the textures of certain meats, but also because I don't believe in how animals are treated on meat plants.
5. I like to color, and I have an adult coloring book that I work on every day.

Welcome Gina

I am glad you don't consider yourself disabled. I am assuming you do have some things about you that are different then a lot of people you meet and I hope that we can help you talk about that and learn.

I occasionally have people think I am aloof, but mostly I am just that quiet person who most people just think is wallpaper.
it is funny, I like to play games and when we have people over to play games and I start cracking off jokes, people always say "I never knew he was so funny" of course they always say that to my wife - they dont want to encourage me to get cornier.

Welcome

Hey Gina,

I just joined the site as well.

I've been thinking a while now about picking up some of those adult colouring books myself. I'm curious, what type of materials do you colour with, crayons, copic markers, or a mixture of different media?

Welcome to WP, Gina.
I also like to color. I've been wanting to turn vegan myself but it's hard when you're surrounded by so many meat-eaters.

Hello, nice to meet you. I like your thoughts on how animals are treated. It makes me sick that people eat so much meat from farms where they're shown no love or respect. I hope your kind of way of looking at it is catching on!

@Bald-Accountant I’m the same way. Sometimes, people find me weird or intimidating before they get to know me. I like to say that I’m an “acquired taste.”
@Gamine I have a crayon set with which I color. I also have colored markers, but I prefer using the crayons. I don’t know what, but something about the crayons is more appealing to me. Oh, and I totally agree with you about 80’s music.
@Ishi2 Yup, it’s not always easy being a vegetarian, especially when you go out to restaurants with people, because they don’t always have good meat-free options. Whenever it’s my dad’s birthday or my brother’s birthday, and they choose where the family will have a birthday dinner, they always go with steakhouses.
@RoadRatt, AnonymousAnonymous and Earthling Thanks. 
@TuftedTitmouse I saw a documentary once about the American food industry, and there was a scene where they were exploring a chicken farm. The chickens were kept in tiny spaces where they were barely able to move, and kept in the dirtiest conditions. It broke my heart and made me sick to my stomach. However, I volunteer at a local animal shelter, and no matter how depressed I feel before going in, I always feel better after. It just feels good to help others, doesn’t it?

So true. What a small world this is. What's interesting is that NJ is the state with the highest number of people on the spectrum.
