Hi everyone,

So first of all, I just want to apologize for my possible lack of English. I'm not a native speaker so please be kind. :)

I registered here because I'd like to know more about myself and about Asperger syndrome as I suspect I'm on the spectrum.

As far as I remember, I always felt different. I learnt reading before most of the children at my age did. But the fact I was aware to be the only one reading at this time made me hide this ability.
When I started to go into the Primary Education, I was frightened that people could see me as "different". I wanted to blend in as much as possible. At this time, I was very interested in the Space and the weather. Also at the end of the Primary Education, I set up a group by myself to defend the environment. I remember being so passionate about that.
From all this, I could say I had a pretty balanced and good childhood (well not that difficult at least).

Then my father died. I was devastated but I fell disconnected from how people around me dealt with his death. I abandonned my environmental group because I couldn't manage it anymore (and anyway no one, except me, was really interested in this).
About my teenage years, I don't think I need to go into details because that was adark period of my life. I felt ignored by people at school. I was sometimes mocked and teased. I don't remember any experience of pure bullying but that's probably because I tended to avoid people. I was easily influencable tho...

After my Secondary Education, I took a gap year abroad as an exchange student. I wanted to learn being more sociable which I did with a lot of efforts and after months that I had been here (I don't like changes so it takes me a lot of time to start being adapted). I met my first boyfriend and I've had probably the first real relationship (we're still together). So I had one of the best part of my life.

Then I went back to my country. It was pretty horrible. For the first time in my life, I felt I was a bit more "integrated" somewhere and now I had to start all over again. I'm still confused about the changes I've had to cope. Plus it was the time that I was entering College. So it wasn't easy for me.

Recently, I've found out about Asperger syndrome. I could recognize myself quite well in it even tho I can't in all aspects of the syndrome. It could explain why I have difficulties maitaining friendships and why I have difficulties with my boyfriend. I had kept the excuse of the "cultural barrier" for a long time but really cultural differences between our countries are not so huge... The fact that I used to push him out of the bed when we were sleeping together to have my own space (I couldn't control it as it happened when I was asleep) is not a matter of cultural differences. I could overcome this with efforts tho.

Anyway I'm stopping here. I don't want to post a long message about me. I just wanted to introduce myself a bit.
Oh yeah. Concerning my current interests, I'm very interested in LGTB social issues and the sociology of norms. I'm also interested in languages (but not litterature, well not so much).

Thanks to all of you for reading me :) and I hope my English is not that bad!

Welcome! Your English is pretty good. I can relate to what you said about hiding your reading ability. I read early, too, but I would sometimes pretend to not know words when I did in order to not draw too much attention to myself. I hated standing out and just wanted to be normal. (Thankfully, since then I have learned to embrace who I am.) I'm sorry about your father dying and you feeling lonely at school. That sounds pretty tough but I'm glad the exchange trip was helpful to you. I'm interested in languages too. Are you a native French speaker? Again, welcome, and I hope you enjoy it here.

Oh thanks. :) I'm trying to maintain the level I have in English as much as I can.
Yeah I did the same. Also later, I didn't want my mother know about what I had to do for school (lessons and stuff). It was probably for the same reasons. Meantime the other mums were all behind their kids. So yeah I wanted to be normal too. It's difficult to embrace our difference tho (well in a sense we're all different).
That's alright, it's past. It was great yeah, too great maybe. I kinda regret having left this country. :/
Oh that's cool. :) Oui, je suis francophone! What languages do you speak? Thanks very much.

I've taken French throughout school, but I wouldn't say I speak it very well. I also took one Spanish class. Do you speak any other languages?

Oh that's good. :) I'm sure it's not that bad. Maybe you need to practice it a bit. But I can tell you this language is tough, even for me. I think even Dutch is more simple than French. Actually you're from Canada?
I've learnt Dutch for a while at school (I guess for the same reasons you've learnt French). I used to speak it very well but I've lost a lot during my exchange... I could understand a bit of German too because both languages are very similar. I've learnt a bit of Spanish as well and I used to speak a bit of Italian (but I've lost it too by lack of practice). Anyway for now the languages I really can speak are French and English.

Thank you. Yes, I'm from Canada, more specifically Ontario. I'm part Dutch, but I don't speak it at all.

Thanks Britte and Cathylynn. :) And I'm not so much interested in environment like I used to. But obviously I'm touched by what's happening in the climate today.

Oh yeah so it's quite important to learn French where you are (like it is where I am).
