Newbie to this forum. Live in London, UK.
Over the last 14 months, I've been diagnosed with both ADHD (combined type) and ASD (autism spectrum disorder). I've learned a lot, including the medical expression "comorbidity".
Anxiety is an ongoing life long feature. It was getting bad again and I saw my GP. Referred me for some counselling sessions. In turn, discussed the possibility of an ADHD assessment. Got an assessment 4 months later. While being assessed for ADHD, specialist doctor also said I had symptoms suggesting ASD comorbidity. In an instant, I was introduced to a new medical expression and that I might also be on the autism spectrum. So here I am with both ADHD and ASD diagnoses and now on methylphenidate, anti-psychotic and anti depressant drugs.
I am using the diagnoses as an opportunity for targetted help and better self-awareness. Until now, I've muddle through and (as the doctors have said), developed some compensating skills.
All the assessments, diagnoses, counselling and medication have all been providing by the UK's National Health Service, for which I have been pleased.
Keen to take part in this forum to learn more.
