Figuratively: I actually snuck in the back door, before asking your permission, and pinned up a few posts, read a lot of yours. ;). I’m still learning forum Etiquettes...

Introduction:

Hello there all! I tend to forget when I arrive/join a social event, that introductions are important. Please let me introduce my self. Pacific NW Male, 51, USA. Myself and my children have some form of "IT"

{ Drats.... Edit here: ...form of Aspergers', which I refer to sometimes as: it , or as in my text below as: "IT". Not to be confused with IT (Information Technology) I just really confused some folks, --End edit.}

I'm relatively new here. Been here all of a couple of weeks; reading and adding a post here and there. And after reading the equivalent of an epic novel – It’s probably time to introduce myself. Takes me awhile to warm-up...

I'm just trying to understand too. Equates to my efforts towards my own "awareness" getting tuned in... And I'm just a guy who wants to offer a view, and not judge; at least I'll try.

I’ll offer my view of AS, and “IT”. So you know where I stand. If we end the debate thinking Mr. Asperger had it all figured out. It would also end creative science regarding AS. "Build upon what we know" I heard someone say. Mr. AS made his conclusions based on the extent of human knowledge in 1948. Enough said. Though Mr. AS came close (applause here), he probably didn't think we could land on the moon twenty years in his future. (was it 1968?) Well, the world did land -- thanks to some creative science.

If we're going to gain a full understanding of "IT". ("IT" is a better label for me (doesn't require a misunderstanding)). The answer might come forth by analyzing more deeply the symptoms -- with objective creative science, hence dispelling labels such as (we all know them): HFA/ADHD/ADD/ and yes AS , etc, etc. I keep an open mind. Labeling something ends my path. Can’t look beyond.

Have I introduced myself? Call me Mr. "IT" . Someone please.... BEAM ME UP! Can I come in? Perhaps we'll see each other around the site, if you’ll let me in.

And very Respectfully, thank you all! This site -- WP, and AFF, (the social gathering I just walked into a couple of weeks ago) both have changed my life! You have no idea how thankful I am to have found this party, where sharing and understanding abound. Quite unlike the schoolyard playground I remember so long ago......Thanks......

Hah! IT, Though not the way I used it above, it also identifies my field of work in my highest paying career, Information Tecnology /Systems Anlyist(SA). No longer do such, prefer Aristic pursuits, and parenting.

When I used the term "IT" metophorically/figuratively. Was an attemp to define me "An IT". IT, as in a pronoun, and describing something without a definition yet. Like: Someone saying "What is it?" I should employ the use of "SA" too, for something like someone saying to me: "What a "Sorry - Ass" Beammeup is sometimes when decribing himself. Sorry about (oops, another use for "AS") my word puns... learned that from my dad, he was full of them, most of them I never understood. Folks here on WP and over on AFF are real literal sometimes, which I appreciate, which I am too.

So, SA that from this SA IT!! Have to chuckle... :D All very figuratively. More literal next time.

Thanks for welcoming in. Time to pin something up. "Post" something. I'll stop....

Hi!

Welcome to this location. Like you, I am also old, male, in the Pacific NW and blessed with Asperger's condition.

What is your view of AS, cq. "IT"?

Old, male, in the South. Welcome, I do not have much faith in third hand guesses about IT. I remember the mid fifties, and those folks were not very bright.

The data is being made to fit an obsolete filing system. True belivers are chasing me around with letters, long explanitaions, and a pill for everything.

I was near fifty when they rediscovered IT, the modern IT, which they still cannot define.

I turned into a human, not much stranger than the rest, I think I did well.

Would any of you guys want to become a lab rat for the new true belivers?

In a nutshell? (Another metaphor), Perhaps better said: In Brief? If anyone catches me using a metaphor that reeks of misunderstanding, feel free to flame me. I learned the definition of flaming here too... though yet to know what "cq" means - see above, please tell me.

First installment of my view on AS/HFA:

Very misunderstood by some who attach stigma. Well understood by some who are experiencing it. -- There's that "it" again. I knew I shouldn't of used it figuratively.... It'll plague me every time I type it (ahh!) now. (My new friend from the UK would call it being niggled, another new word I leaned). -- On with the point.... Those still looking for a definition are here exchanging thoughts about it.

Did I say "Brief". This subject requires a novel/movie. One such is "Mozart and the Whale", and comes in both versions. A friend here on WP suggested to me that I read a book by the same author: "Your life is NOT a label". I didn't read it, but gleaned the jist hearing my spouse talk about it as she read.

I never liked labels. Tends to end a subject with a conclusion, which is something I tried to speak of earlier above in my first post.

Briefly, well, can't actually. Here's my idea:

AS to me is obviously within our genetics first, with variation, then the Womb experience, Birth experience (some suffer from a birth asphyxia - due to umbilical cord problems/clamping). Then some head for the schoolyard unsuspecting and get trounced emotionally by unaware bullies, ; A bullies obsession perhaps, because of self insecurity? All this adding more variation. It (ahh!) will take a long time to unravel. :)

I'll stop here leaving you with a view, and say, speaking figuratively: "I've just presented a prescription that for some could have them spending the rest of their life in a counselor’s office; trying to figure out what's wrong with their own self! Arrgh! Gets my passionate side stirred-up.

Hah! What a mistake! When all it really was: Was a misunderstood gift -- Though I have been known to call it a curse sometimes, jokingly now. -- There's a lot of folks out there on the fringes, that if they could just hold this one thought: "There really wasn't anything wrong to begin with!". Perhaps it would cure them instantly. Well, the curse/gift would still be present; and in my case, a certainly better attitude about it.

Thanks again for welcoming me... glad we’re all here. Time to party! :D

So, Inventer, "veteran", "Phoenix", what's my next designation for me after: "Tufted tit-mouse"? "Flightless bird"? Hah! took me a while to figure out what "emou egg" meant.

Your veteren status says to me it's time to respect the words of a wise man, or trust a test he is about to perform.... I'll submit to being a lab rat for a while. As long as you promise to beam me up when you're done! What did you mean by: "lab rat"?

"Old" sounds relative now. I'm 51. Regards

Beammeup,

We all get to be birdies till 1000 posts, then you can pick your own.

I am 60, pre anything, just grew up. Then came the book of psych problems, we were all something else till 1994, when AS was listed. The first wave was therapy, haveing someone tell people they were screwed up, with some electroshock. The second wave was pills for everything, and a new mix every year. and now, no drugs or treatments are reconized as needed.

That does not stop some factions who think we can and should be cured. I have better things to do.

I like being me. Age does adjust us to ourselves. There are some free lance curbies about, they are the ones who see us as lab rats. They claim to have a higher truth, they define, limit, and try to be forceful.

I am out to self define from the inside. The gift is worth knowing.

Bingo! Jackpot! 7-7-7!....... We're kindred!

Glad I introduced myself. On to becoming a Flightless bird I am...

Next time....

Welcome beammeup. I trust you're keeping yourself amused. It's a state difficult to avoid, here. People just insist on making you laugh. (Hey! That wasn't supposed to be funny. Stop it.)

More.... Amused yes, with a serious side too.

Off topic, but hey, I noticed you had an interest/project regarding a Leaning Center in Port Isaac. ( Typical snoop "it" I am. Curious rather.) And rather than PM, it appears that I get more credit by posting vs. PM'ing. (Need that thousand so I can pick my own flightless bird!)

So, tell me about the school if you have the time. We've been seeking alternatives to our public atrocity.

One such private school we're interested in is a "Sudbury".

Wiki definition: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sudbury_school

Do tell me about your Learning Center please.

Regards, Beammeup
