Hi! My name is Hannah and I'm 16. I just recently got an autism diagnosis from my therapists. While he believes it's mild, he thinks it's probable that I am indeed autistic, even if it's towards the very mild aspie side.

I guess what my point is that I'm not entire sure if I'm autistic. I've done a small amount of research and some of it does sound like me (ex. eye contact issues, intense focus on somethings, a scad of mild sensory issues, having trouble reading body language and social issues in general). But at the same time, it's not severe and a lot of it my mom says everyone deals with. So I guess I'm just worried I'm dramatizing something everyone else has to deal with. Maybe I'm not really autistic.

I don't know. That wasn't cohereant. I just wanted to say hi and maybe get some input.

There is a chance that your mom is an undiagnosed aspie herself. From what you have said it does sound like your therapist is right, but it is a good idea to look into it more because if you don't have aspergers then you will know that and if you do have aspergers then you will know more about what you are dealing with.

Anyway, welcome to the forum!

Hi psuedothespian, welcome to WP!

What kind of sensory issues do you have? My mother also told me the same about some of the issues I have but she isn't autistic and she for sure isn't me (can't look in my head). I guess some parents don't like the idea of their kids being autistic (or having any other type of disorder) and try to dismiss problems by saying everyone has some of them.

The only thing that is important is how much it effects you, is it not severe according to you, your parents or your therapist? If it is a problem for you, your sensory issues, anxiety, social issues or whatever then don't let them label it as "everyone has problems", "mild" or "not severe" but fight, learn and get the help you need.

Welcome to Wrong Planet! :)

I too suspect that a member of my immediate family may also have AS, but said family member does not believe that ASD is real.
