The thing is, my parents found out about WP, and immediately banned me from it.

After checking out the site, they told me this morning that it's all right if I stay, only if I change my user name.

So, now I'm cruimh_shionnachain.

I'm happy to be staying.

Why the name change?

Welcome back mate! My mum never looks at WP, so I'll never get banned from it.

i have told my dad about wp, since its always on the computer screen each time he looks at my laptop. seems he dont mind even though we did have a nice arguement about my avator,(yes that one thats next to this post) he thought i dl'ed that from the internet, and i had to almost literally show him by bringing out the closer thats in that avator(i guess he forgot i still have that closer even though i still live with my dad), that its the same closer and laptop and just got a bit creative with the webcam thats all. after that he never looked at what i said (probably forgot that im doordoctor) or even asks who i talk to on here.

cruimh_shionnachain, maybe mom/mum thought that wp was some group that you must pay for or some colt type thing full of troublemakers or bad people???

in past when i used to use my dad's desktop i used to go to wp and whenever he would type something with w in beginning the auto fill would want to put wrongplanet in, and i told him also then what wrongplanet is and what its about. (he thougt there was something wrong with his machine like virus, trojan or some porn thing)

Evidently they thought it was a Facebook/Myspace thing, and they watch the news and are slightly too paranoid for their own good, though admittedly, I wasn't easing their fears by getting rid of the window when they walk by. They thought it was full of perverts and stuff like that.
From now on though, I'm going to have to be more careful, because they have the URL.

ohh ok now i know, yea many news stories have been out about myspace and facebook, parents look at it like a pervert hangout but college kids and others think of it like a place to reconnect with friends.

i do see parent's concern but it seems they think teens and adults that live with their parents would post private info then the pervert find them and rape or murder them or other things.

How did this all happen in the first place?

My kids live for WP. Especially my 7 year old aspie. He would be lost without it.

Every morning the kids say, "Can we go on WP mum?"

The minute I pick them up from school, "When can we go on WP mum?"

I always make sure I'm close by so they're not giving away personal information.

At least they took the time to view the content of the site, and see that it's an important resources for people that are gifted like us. Glad to hear people aren't flying off the handle.

1)I previously posted saying I was leaving, so I wanted to clarify things.
2) My parents saw me on the site, and while freaking out, banned me from the site. However, after checking out the site, they found that it was OK. So I'm back.
3)That defeats the whole point of anonymity.

(The whole idea of an entire thread dedicated to this incident, is, I admit, very embarrasing. I'm honestly not trying to grab attention. I just had no idea how to go about it, and I thought some people would be confused if they saw some random user with more that 500 posts.)
