Hello everyone. My wife thinks I have AS. How do I know if I have it? It's funny I've been telling my wife since we've met over 13 years ago that I feel like I do not belong on this planet. My social skills suck. First I was obsessed with bibilical prohecy. Now I'm obessed with stocks and the markets. I see every flaw in drywall, every speck of paint missing from walls, every crumb on the floor. My head is always overloaded with many different thoughts never in serial but always in parellel. I've always felt like a fish out of water in any social situation. Don't get me wrong I like people but I feel that I can always do witout most people or social interaction. I have tunnel vision in most things I do. Are these symptons of AS or is there something else wrong with me? What other traits to Aspies have?

Dave

First you can look up the syptoms of Aspergers or Autism? Also, you can talk to your psychritrist and bring any past medical records with you? Bring the ones from your early childhood if you can.

Hi davesaint. Everything you describe sounds pretty consistent with AS. Have a wander around here. A bit of research. Try the online tests? They give you some idea.

In any case, welcome to Wrong Planet. Who nows, maybe it's the planet you've always been on. :)

Hello Dave and Welcome to WP

I'd read as much about AS as you can both here on WP and in any books etc you can
find. There are similar conditons like Social Anxiety Disorder so it sometimes takes a
bit of research. In my case various possible AS traits all jumped out at me,even obscure things from childhood like walking in certain ways (without swinging the arms is one).
I also realised I didn't make eye contact as much as others, which hadn't occured to
me before.
Everyone with AS will have a different mix of traits but the ones you described seem to
fit so far.

This only thing above that seem not aspie for me is: "My head is always overloaded with many different thoughts never in serial but always in parellel.", but many other seem to me very aspie.

Anyway my opinion really doesn't matters; in such a important question to you , the only opinion that really matters must be yours :!:

And you are at the right place, here you will learn a lot and soon notice without a doubt if you are or not aspie!

Welcome :!: :D

Hi Dave,

What a brilliant name...

echo what most have said here, but also, if you realise you think loike people here, there's no real reason to leave. Human is a spectrum that goes into many dimensions, and everyone can place themselves somewhere on it. From what you've said, your closer to here than some people in the world.

Davesaint,

Same here but I think it is just a guy thing. I am not only a drywall inspecter, but find most of the world out of square. I took a flyer at the market, SEC Series 7, but with stocks and gold going up, I think we are at Dow 5000 from before it first hit 10,000. I like small utilities, come what may, people will watch it on TV, with a cold drink, and the dividends are good.

The in the head data swarm is well known, several visions, some see information as intermediate waves, that become information, images, others see streams of ones and zeros, in color that resolve into data and images. Now with extra fun!

Your wife of thirteen years is right, your wife of thirteen years is right, your wife of thirteen years is right, Your wife of thirteen years is right, your wife of thirteen years is right, your wife of thirteen years is right.

Doctors might want to learn something about you for money, your wife knows everything about you, so give her the money. When was the last time you brought her flowers and chocolate?

Welcome to Wrong Planet, we have fun!

 I've been married 12 years and I'm sure my husband has Asperger's. Tell your wife to send me a PM! We'll get along well!

Oh, and definantly definantly buy her some flowers and chocolates! :D

It's a good think to recognize your aspergers. You are not defective. You are different. I lean on my husband for help in social situations. He and some other friends can tell me when I am too loud or too blunt or skipping important steps in social processes. Now that I know I am faceblind, I can explain to new acquaintances and now people know to reintroduce themselves to me whenever we meet, and life is getting easier.
Listen to your wife. Ask her what you can do to make her life better, and then DO IT! Also ask her for clues to social interaction. You might even work out a private code for what you should be doing but haven't figured out yet. There is nothing wrong with doing what you can to make other people feel comfortable even if it feels awkward to you.
Welcome to Wrong Planet.
