Apparently I'm supposed to introduce myself here before burying the forum in Problem, of which I have many.

Except I can't introduce myself without a name and I'm not supposed to post that. Which sort of defeats the purpose I guess.

So what should I say? I'm 32 and my official diagnosis says "autism spectrum disorder" which, I am told, is basically just asperger's syndrome given a new name in the DSM-V. Is that what I actually have? Maybe. But it's a very unusual variant so I'm having great difficulty figuring out ways to deal with it. Hence my being here.

EDIT: The forum signup made me specify my gender but only listed male/female binary options. Now apparently it shows up on all of my posts too? Can I at least turn that off somehow?

Hello and welcome.

Autism spectrum disorder (ASD), under the current DSM is a term that covers not only Aspergers, but PDD-NOS and Kanners type autism. They all got kinda lumped together. You may well have met the criteria for Aspergers before the DSM changes, but maybe not. If you were told by a professional type that it is more or less Aspergers, they might have meant it in your case in particular. I dunno. Whatever the case may be for you, I do wish you well in figuring things out. This place was a huge help to me when I was first dx'd. I hope it can be the same for you.

Yeah, the gender options here leave things to be desired. You are not the only person here who has had issues with that. If there is way way to hide it, I am unaware of that. I am not sure why that continues on here, but it does. It seems really limiting and odd, especially given how many of us here would like more than two basic options. *shrugs*

Anyhoo... welcome again :D

Welcome!

(And maybe if enough people ask, we can get a "No, thank you" gender option.)

OK thanks for the welcomes and sorry to bail so suddenly. Gonna see if I can articulate stuff in an actual proper thread and whatnot.

I know ASD is a superset that includes Aspergers. I was diagnosed with Aspergers as a child but later that got updated to ASD.

Interests: Currently on hold. There are rather a lot of things I'd like to be doing. That I'm not able to do them is part of why I am here. Such things include: Writing. Drawing. Traveling. And being pretentious about video games.

Is this the right planet? No idea. I honestly don't feel like I've ever been on the wrong planet. I just feel like I'm losing my grip on it.
