hi everybody,
I am from Italy and I still am not sure if I am Asperger (or a high functioning autistic person) or not.
I don't know how many people from foreign countries there are on this forum, so I apologize if my English won't be always correct, please feel free to correct me when needed.
I am waiting for a diagnosis, I have the first encounter with a psychologist who is an expert in this area in about 2 weeks.
My boyfriend (who is american and asperger himself) was the first one to tell me that I I could have been asperger .
He said he had had this feeling about me since the first time he met me, but he only told me some months ago.
I didn't take his words too seriously at the beginning, I thought I was too much functioning to possibly have something to do with autism. But then I have begun to research (more because of my boyfriend than because of myself) and I have read all that I could. The more I read, the more I recognized myself.
Yes, it is true, I am an adult and I have found a lot of strategies to cope with a great amount of everyday problems, and probably my position in the spectrum is quite close to the neurotypical, but yes... I totally could be.
Then it happened to me to read Aspergirls by Rudy Simone, and I could relate with almost everything.
Since I am not the kind of person who can stand the uncertainity I have taken an appointment for a diagnosis and I will know soon if my doubts are real or not.

Anyway, here I am.
I hope I will find some answers to my doubts here and I will learn more about this subject.

There are many people from non-English-speaking countries here. Including Italy. Peacesells is from Anzio, Italy.

I've been to Roma, Venezia, and Bari.

I should drive in the countryside sometime.

Welcome to Wrong Planet.

What are you especially interested in?

Hi. Thank you.
I am just interest in learning the more that I can about high functioning autism. I would like to understand if this is why I have felt so wrong during all my life. But, even though I should result not in the spectrum, since my boyfriend is Asperger, it is the occasion for me to go deeper into the subject and to understand better his problems and to be able to support him better.

You are most welcome here on WP, whether you happen to be autistic or not.

You can learn quite a bit by reading the posts here.

You should read all the subforums, not just the General Autism subforum.

But, if you go into Philosophy, Politics, and Religion, people can get a little rough there. Just take it for what it is: People trying to get their point across, and trying to "win" at the same time.

By the way LOL....I'm mad at the Roma police. I once forgot to validate my ticket on a tram, and got fined 50 Euro!! !

you must have been very unluky to find the only working roman bus ticket inspector !
I am kidding, it is very common to get those kind of fines, but I thought they were more elastic with tourists who are not used to the italian way of ticket validation, I am sorry for you.
I understand how people can become a little passionate about Politics and Religion, but at the moment I will have a look around in the other subforums mostly.
Thank you for the suggestions. I really appreciate

There's even a section where you can post in Italian, or any language other than English.

There's at least a few Italians here, so that you just might get a response if you start a thread.

I bet you'll get lots of responses, too, if you tell us how you met your American husband!

Reminds me of an old TV show from the 1960s called "To Rome with Love."

Americans tend to find Italians romantic.

Europeans tend to be more multilingual than Americans.

Do you know any other language other than Italian and English?

well, it actually sounds more like a soap opera, it is complicated and kinda "tragic" in some points, I don't know if people want to listen to it
But yes, even though he is asperger and I possibly am, we are very very VERY romantic together.

I know basic Japanese, somehow I understand (but only speak few words) Spanish and French and something of Portuguese. Know a little (very little) bit of German.
I know pretty well ancient Greek and Latin (but they are not very useful), and that's all.

People love stories about how people overcome tragedy, and fall in love anyway.

I feel, if you write about it, and write about it well, it might sell!

People think that this is more "the real deal" than somebody falling in love at first sight, and then the couple living "happily ever after."

There's a Latin thread in the "other languages" subforum.

There's a few Portuguese threads.

There are people here who like Anime, and Japanese culture in general. If you start a thread in Japanese (especially if using Roman letters), you'll probably get responses.
