Question for you lovely aspies!

Hey there. I'm going to try to make this as short as possible, but I'd love some input from you guys.

I've had (pretty severe) social anxiety for my entire life. I only recently (at the age of 25) decided to seek help, and pretty much bounced from LMHC to LMHC for a while, getting nowhere. Eventually, the third (or possibly fourth?) LMHC directed me to a PhD who diagnosed me with ADHD via a simple questionnaire and very minimal face-to-face time with me.

Noticing the similarities between ADHD and ASD diagnoses, I sought out another LMHC who diagnosed me with ASD on the spot in about 5-10 minutes. At first, it felt like everything made sense, but then I started to question things.

For a final time, I sought out a PhD who did intense testing on me. The conclusion was just social anxiety, because he literally ruled out all possibility of ADHD and ASD with specific tests (the ADHD test literally made me want to KMS, or at least gouge my eyeballs out, but I was hungover and still passed it).

In this scenario, would you trust the person who did the most testing, or what you believed you had? I honestly never considered ASD until recent years, but it seems like I'm the most Aspie of all NT's in the world.

Any words are appreciated. Thank you!

Well, the way I look at it, the possibility of having something off about you and the time taken to test or "check" for it are indeed proportional (not inversely). Say I were to have two doctors testing me for ADHD - one of them diagnoses me in five minutes, and the other revokes that diagnosis with a test that takes an hour. Naturally I'd trust the latter.

Not at all. Most of the members here are Aspies to my understanding, though, but there are also quite a few NTs. If you stop by often enough, you'll almost inevitably run into them somewhere.

If you're a guy, you have issues with your mom. If you're a girl, it's with your father. You also probably had bad acne or oily skin when you were 10 to 11 and it really bothered you. You were also overly self-conscious over girls.

I would trust the most thorough....but still working on my own diagnosis. I read from someone who visited a clinic that specializes in ASD's and they were there most of the day for their appointments (2). I'm also curious if there is a particular professional that may be more qualified also.

For my own struggles at the doctors yesterday asking about a referral and the doctor sent me for blood tests (thyroid) and got to spend 2 hours waiting in a clinic with 40 people (blah) I needed the rest of the day to rest

Sometimes it gets hard when people claim to specialize in something, I've been finding out. They seem much more trigger happy with their diagnoses of that one particular thing. For example, my sister got a diagnosis for FAS (who also apparently has ASD) by literally going to specialists for both conditions respectively, so I'm losing faith in the whole system TBH.

(It's also a known fact that she couldn't possibly have FAS, but 'a doctor said so' (her words))

My ADHD diagnosis came as a shock at the time, until I researched the doctor's website - they specialize in ADHD, so of course I have it .
