hello; i'm new here on this site, and also new to having an 'atypical autism' (or PDDNOS) diagnosis, and still newly learning what it means.
one thing it means is that i might be getting out of the psych hospital i'm currently in (for depression), and into a specialist auitism unit... and i have virtually no clue as to what that will entail. :?
if anyone wants to talk, or give me tips or book/web recomendations that would be great, but i should warn you that i only get online at weekends, so any conversation with me will be slightly stilted... talking about me in my absence is ok, so long as you're not mean.

basic facts about me are that i'm 28, i live in england, i'm female, i love cats, my favourite colour is pink. My favourite cheese is parmizan; and my choice of that last factoid reveals that do watch big brother  , and am just about not too ashamed to admit it.

Hi yanna,
Welcome to WP!

I like parmesan and am also in england. (I am female and 26 fyi).

There are many good books on autism. I'll just suggest a few:

Autism, Understanding the Enigma, - Uta Frith
Nobody Nowhere - Donna Williams
Autism - and Inside out approach - Donna Williams
Understanding Autism for Dummies - (aaargh - can't remember the author - but it's one of the 'for dummies' series)

Autism Spectrum Disorders - Chantal Sicile Kira

Anything by Lorna Wing, Professor Simon Baron-Cohen or Tony Attwood

Send in the idiots - Kamran Nazeer
Not even Wrong - (again, can't remember the author- d'oh!)

Websites:

National Autistic Society
Developmental Adult Neuro-Diversity Association
Aspergia

Hope this helps.

Take care and good luck.

To complete girl7000's post...

I'm sitting here with "Understanding Autism for Dummies" in my lap - authors Stephen M. Shore (received a regressive autism diagnosis at age 18 months, became nonverbal, and was deemed "too sick" to be treated on an oupatient basis. - quote from the book's "About the Authors") and Linda G. Rastelli (may be normal - who's counting - not a quote).

"Not Even Wrong: Adventures in Autism" is by Paul Collins.

I'll add one that I find fascinating: "Pretending to be Normal: Living with Asperger's Syndrome" by Liane Holliday Willey.

Taking the Aspie Quiz can be interesting.

Hi, Vanna!

Welcome to Wrongplanet!

That's an interesting username! I thought you got US Jeopardy! and not US Wheel of Fortune in England!

That's a very popular show here, and it's still going strong!

I hope you enjoy posting here!
