Hello Everyone,
It was a Pain Management Consultant who started me on this spectral journey.
During a discussion about my arthritis, he rather brazenly alluded to the fact he knows someone very like me with "Asperger's".
I wasn't surprised, as I already have diagnoses of ADHD Combined Type and Bipolar 2.
I decided to pursue a private diagnostic interview and the psychologist was sure enough to give me a verbal diagnosis of ASD1. There's a report in the post and I'll be interested to see what that says.
My own reaction was positive : Naturally, it explains a lot of things, but reactions of others varied.
Not as positive as I had hoped - More trepidatious to be honest, which was a little disheartening.
Anyway, I have joined this website to talk to others of a similar mindset - Mostly for reassurance, but moreso to hook up with people who'll get me and my quirks straight away and people I'm likely to identify with.
I am extremely verbose, (but I am told that's quite typical), and tend to be optimistic in outlook.
Another site I visited seemed more to be used for venting -That's not what I'm here to do, as I'm happy with my diagnosis.
I'm looking for advice on navigating the world from this different angle, what to look out for, where to find assistance and where to bump into lie minded people.
I am literally starting from scratch at age 52, so am seeing this as a great new challenge at the moment, although I expect there'll be some bumps along the way.
Anyway, thanks,
Hope to hear from you

Welcome to the forums! You'll find lots of like-minded people here, and a range of issues and fixes as well. Just don't mind the weird political discussions haha

Hello and welcome

I find it mostly supportive on here, some sections better than others. I'm still learning my way around as it's very big.
I was diagnosed about 4 months ago and it has taken some adjustment. Sorry to hear not everyone has reacted well for you, I've had more of a non-reaction or apart from the job centre who have been surprisingly helpful.

Thanks,
I guess I'll just see how it goes.
I'm guessing this forum has ballooned since it started - I know it is well renounded.
There's a local bike shop near me that works with the ASD community, so I might just pop in and see what happens there.
I haven't even got my diagnostic report yet, which I'm looking forward to, as I've known I'm pretty "dfferent" for years.
I should probably Google autism + my home town and ee what comes back.
How are you getting on post diagnosis?

I'm doing much better now but during my diagnosis things came up that I had been unaware of such as the fact that I do not show negative feelings on the outside. I had spent 42 years thinking nobody cared if they upset me and it turns out they didn't know. So be aware that it's mostly good but there are bits that can throw you (not literally :D )

Also of the five recommendations in the report none have or are going to happen :( which left me looking on the internet for help and I found a lot of sites such as 'don't date an Aspie' 'Aspie's have no feelings' 'support for those lumbered looking after someone Autistic' well that's what it felt like and I felt very lost and down. And then I came here :D it really has helped and I hope it helps you too.
