Hey everyone, I've been replying to threads for a few days but thought I would give a formal(ish) hello!

I am a 23 year old female who only worked out that Autism clicked with me perfectly about a month ago, I am going through the process to get a formal diagnosis, but it might be very expensive so I'll see how that goes :O.

My special interests are programming, reading (fiction: trashy romance novels, high fantasy) and Sims 3. Then a few other interests that come and go, but they are my consistent ones <3.

I currently work as a web developer for a company in London, which I think is pretty awesome because I get paid to do one of my favorite things all day!

I am often sickeningly positive, but I do have pretty severe PTSD and the depression can get to me on bad days.

My boyfriend is also Autistic so I may well end up asking for advice there too xD it can get a bit intense at times lol.

Anyway lovely to meet all you awesome people and I am excited to be able to chat with people who think like me!

Hello

Why are you paying? it's free on the NHS, it does take some time, my wait from requesting an assessment, I asked my GP, was 10 months. If you have tried this and were put off (often happens) and it matters to you, then keep trying.

Not everyone feels the need for a formal diagnoses (that's all you get) I got mine because I knew there was a recurring difference in the way I communicate and see things to everyone around me but I was unsure of whether that difference was ASD or something else. Or I was just an evil monster with delusions of niceness. :D

I am trying to get a quote before I try the doctors around here because it is a 2yr+ waiting list where I am! If it is way too expensive I'll try the GP for sure but for now if I can get it sooner I would prefer that.

I decided with my therapist that it would be best to get one because I often get obsessed with things and will spend hours questioning myself xD better for my own peace of mind I confirm it if I can.

Hi AntisocialButterfly, I'm new here as well. I paid per session an average of $130. There were four in total. I was fortunate to be living at home with my parents at the time so I had the extra money to go through with it.

I didn't tell anyone what I was doing while I had yet to be diagnosed. I had to do this homework assignment which involved opinions from my mother, so I divulged my activities and told her that I needed her support with it. It was a bit of an uphill battle for her to accept something might be "wrong" with me.

That was 8 years ago now and I'm just recovering from a bout of depression where my diagnosis of AS was the main source of my desire to end things. I'm better now, but I'm afraid that I don't know how I feel about being on the spectrum anymore.
