What is your career?

I'm curious to know what industrial sectors are represented here. I'm in school to become an actuary, so I do a lot of computational work... all the time. It's essentially all I do, aside from my routine and researching autism.

Any programmers? Mathematicians? Accountants? ... any actuaries??? Kind of a rare breed, so i don't expect so, but it would be cool!

My degree is in Geography and Urban Planning, and I have about 5 years experience in GIS.

However, it’s difficult to find work in that field, so I am studying various programming language and database systems.

I am an engineer. Is an actuary a special type of statistician?

IT Security industry (Forensics specialist)

I'm also a programmer but programming is more of a tool for me to extract data and find the "needle in the haystack". Over the years i've held several jobs in the IT industry (networking, databases) and i'm good with analytics since i'm a walking IT department that can hold my own.

I'm a technical person but i can also see how things relate to each other and unlike some people working in IT, i see the requirements of the end user and the organisations needs being the primal driving force. I hate people only working for themselves, creating non-existent problems to justify their own existence. Met lot of those useless people recently while working in government.

When i was younger i had short term jobs clearing out dead woods and delivering ads to peoples mailboxes. I'm a doer and i learn quickly.

I'm currently studying music. My ideal career would be to be a "semi-professional" musician - that is to say, I'd like to make money by making my own music and performing it live, but not necessarily to the point of it being my only source of income. Rather, I'd have another part-time job as a safety net, if only in case the music thing failed.

You're smart to want a safety net. It is an extremely difficult way to survive even during a person's prime working years. My brother is a musician with a full roster of wealthy students he teaches -- but still he had to pawn his gear over the holidays to pay for an emergency. Emergencies happen.

It's hand to mouth. My brother studied at the New School in New York and is naturally very gifted. He is on the spectrum, too, which makes it harder, of course. My point is that even doing everything right it can be a struggle to survive as a musician.

Invest your time in developing a "day career" -- not just a day job. Then use that money to fund your musical passions. Maslow's hierarchy of needs isn't just smart art for textbooks.

I'm currently jobless. I had a part-time cleaning job for a little over a year, but the company was sold and the company that took over wanted to use their own people. I have a bachelor's degree in biology. I'm considering looking into computer animation/design but don't really know where to begin, especially without making a big commitment, since I've no idea if I'll actually like it or not.

I'm on last year of Architecture school, and I work as an intern in a small architecture office where I mostly do 3D models.

never had a "career" as such. I had jobs but they are not a career.

I am an engineer.

Most of my jobs have been working on machines, which are easy to understand. I have thrived on that.

The last 2-3 years I have been given duties that require a lot more meetings and working with a group. I have had a very hard time adjusting to these new parts of my job.

I have had some jobs that require me to travel to Asia a lot. I know this sounds odd but I rather liked it because I was not expected to fit in.

I wish I could have swung a career this go-round. mebbe in the next life....
