Welcome. I think programming is a great career for people with Asperger's. Everything is logical, literal, there is very little ambiguity. Even the people in the field are understanding, because analytical skills fairly match well with AS behaviors. I ended up mixing two of my passions, programming and music, working on music-related software projects. Looking back at my life, it would be much harder if I didn't discover programming as a kid.
What is that like?
What specifically do you mean? Programming at young age? It was great. At that time, I didn't have any idea about AS, but I didn't really fit anywhere. With computers, I could be alone, study them and they did exactly what I told them to do, unlike people.
This was on 8-bit computers, which booted directly into a BASIC prompt, so it was very easy to get started. I used to sneak into the adult section of a library to borrow programming books. It was a lot of fun. I didn't think I'd end up developing software professionally. Only much later did I discover that it's also a great career. As an university student, I already had more experience than most people around me.
