Come on, we all have them. I'm interested to know if there are any common annoyances among aspies. So go ahead and share those little things that people do that drive you up the wall!

Asking me what I'm thinking
What am I thinking? I'm trying to figure out the best place to dispose of your body. Quit asking me.

"Be yourself."
Be yourself? Am I the only one who thinks this is the most worthless thing you can say to someone? Who else can you be? If you're a sad loser who copies what everyone else does, then that's who you are, a sad loser who copies what everyone else does. Telling someone to be themselves usually gets a wistful nod, then they go on doing what they've always done because it means nothing. The next time you want someone to stop copying what everyone else does, tell them that they're completely unoriginal and boring and that they should stop being a sheep.

I often see people being advised to be themselves in the Romantic Relationships forum when they're trying to score a date. What are you saying? Act like a nervous, antisocial weirdo who has obviously never even flirted before? Wow, I must have some spinach in my teeth or something because IN ALL MY EIGHTEEN YEARS THIS APPROACH HAS INVARIABLY SUNK LIKE THE TITANIC. Face it, sometimes you've got to hide your weirdness, at least temporarily, if you want to get ahead. "Being yourself" isn't the ultimate answer.

And what about how every single pop singer in the entire world describes their music as modeled on being yourself? Isn't that a bit ironic? Being yourself must be pretty lame if all you ever do in life is copy what high-selling artists have done.

Grammar mistakes
One of those peeves I wish I didn't have. I can immediately spot a spelling or grammar error, and it drives me crazy when it's blatant or if it's repeatedly used. I'm usually good about not pointing them out since I know people hate it when I do. But I have to say, not much gets me more aggravated than seeing someone writes "it's" in the possessive form. Agh.

The one that drives me crazy is lose/loose. I just don't understand how people can confuse the two of them.

Not a pet peeve, but still annoying. I now add to my threads to notgive BS advice like that.

Awkward silence is one of mine. It flat out scares the shi* out of me. Even when it's not awkward, it always seems weird at school.

High pitched noises.

Repetitive banging noises. I could never be a construction worker.

Breathing sounds in songs.

Rap music videos.

Punks/Skateboarders(most), I don't know why though.

Boring Science teachers. If they're not random/eccentric, I'll fall asleep.

Gossip. Has anyone ever started a rumor about yourself? It's fun, I promise it doesn't backfire.

Cheaters.

Piccolos and solo violins. High pitched! :x

My own grammar when posting on forums.

b***h <<<<Missing an asterik

Boy bands.

Hypocrites, doesn't everyone hate these?

Songs with a generally uplifting and positive message (unless Christian  ).

Japanese Pop and Happy Hardcore Techno.

Cous Cous...African rice...really bland... :?

My computer. :(

High strung/uptight people.

Flourescent lights when blinking.

Myself.

"Of course you can't explain it. It's love."
Anything can be explained if you look hard enough.

"What's up?"
Well, I'm wasting my life pointlessly listening to insincere meaningless babbling. What about you?

"You'll grow out of it."
No, I'll sell my soul in the attempt to hide it.

"Relax."
I'd relax if you'd disappear.

And anyone who's ever called something "cheesy" or "corny". Could someone please explain to me what the h*** that means and why it's an insult?

I like this thread.
I'll be back with a few.
Lawn mowers and vacuum cleaners come to mind, especially if I'm trying to think or write.
People - in all their good intentions - rearranging my things in the name of organization, because they seem convinced that I have no intention of seeing to it myself, eventually, and that when I do I will organize things the way I want to.
Hmm... yeah, I'll think of more... be back soon.
A lot of people in general do a good peeve job for me, but I know they don't do it on purpose so I try to be understanding - not always easy - maybe I'm not really Aspie if I TRY to empathize?

Yeah, let me get back on this.
Good thread.

These two words are often mixed up because they are homophones. Inconsistent spelling is a trait of English language that makes it especially vulnerable to such mistakes. Please direct your anger at inhabitants of 15th century England. ;)

But seriously, part of it is! The ones to whom are
sincere to you will have seen most of your quirks
and will be able to see pass them on your first date!
I doubt a Zoink! of Boinga-Boinga! will happen, but
in time a romance will form with acceptance, partial
honesty of being yourself. It is, as you suggested
allowing phase by phase revealings of your quirks!
A little mystery goes a long way!

Rock/Pop stars come and go, and you are stuck
or accept yourself! Superficialness will come and go!

You are correct, but no one is perfect and the
acceptence that if you go to other sites their are
SERIOUS spelling errors and that the way it is.

Hmmmmmmm?

I am doubly more aggitated with people I have come
to know, like this web site, and that is why I was getting
nasty at a earlier date of posting this week.

It has been resolved here, but always present in
the physical world I live in!

1. TAILGATERS

2. ULTRA-CONSERVATIVE REPUBLICANS

3. SMOKERS (in my space)

4. THOSE ACTIONS WHICH I DEEM ILLOGICAL AND IDIOTIC (often,Tailgaters, Republicans, and Smokers all fall into this category as well)

I don't know where to start! Plus, the number of pet peeves varies with my mood. When I get pissed about one pet peeve, my list of pet peeves grows exponentially. Then to relax, I go do smome preservating activity for a couple hours, usually either going on thne internet or playing cmputer games.

I'm guilty of apostrophe misuse, it's embarrassing. <cringe> but as for spelling mistakes/typos - I don't like wearing reading glasses so I don't always pick up errors in this font. Anyone else prefer a slightly larger font to be standard here? I should use the browser menu to enlarge text, but I mostly forget. Anyway, the average literacy of the average NT is now so low that bad spelling is normal

Now, noises I hate...

Lawnmowers aaaaaargh I hate them. I live opposite a park and I don't just get the neighbours mowers, I get the park tractor where some lazy council worker dawdles so badly it take him 8 hours to mow a small/medium park.

Thumping bass from somewhere in the neighbourhood...you can never quite figure out which house it's coming from.

Trailbikes

Children screaming and yelling and generally being loud. (yes, I live in suburbia, near a school) Childrens voices generally.

Dogs that bark mindlessly, monotonously and continually.

Other categories...

Drivers who on executing a left turn, pull out to the right first (I think because they feel it will give them a better angle on the turn)

Drivers who don't indicate.

Rental DVDs that are unplayable (scratched or dirty). DVD is worse than videotape for playability problems. I hate getting part way through a film only to have the DVD player quit with a 'scratched or dirty' message, then I have to eject and clean a disk, re-start the DVD player, and even then, it's often so bad it still won't play.
