Hi to all! I'm a 28 yo guy from Rome who has been diagnosed few months ago. My special interest are Economics (I'm completing my Msc), statistical data, TV series, history, politics, science and recently programming with R and Python. I'm also gay.
My life has not been easy, and I guess most of you can relate to my situation. My family struggle to accept my diagnosis and my (supposed) friends think that I'm making it up. Unfortunately, I've not been able to keep significant relationships with anyone, due to mutual, constant misunderstanding, most probabibly for not being aware of my diagnosis until this year. Which also means that I'm single.
That said, I hope I will find nice people here!

Benvenuto! Ciao dalla Croazia!

I'm sorry if your family and friends haven't been supportive, but maybe getting a diagnosis is the right path towards better mutual understanding?

Anyway, welcome! Glad to have you here :)

Hope you find WP useful.

That's what I hoped, but probabibly too much misunderstanding has been piling up along the years. Thanks a lot for your welcome

No problem, it's always good to see our dear neighbours here :D

But hey, never say too late! Where there's a will, there's always a way, no?
(Shamelessly quoting Bob Marley lol)

Would you like to share what kind of misunderstandings frequently occur? Maybe we can all come up with some solution.

JMK: Hi, and welcome to WP.

I love Italian culture although I've not been, Italian cinema especially and I'm vaguely familiar with Italian politics. Love the spaghetti westerns and the grim style of 70s poliziotteschi films. I note also that Tennent's Super is considered quite popular in Rome.

My main problem is that they don't understand my daily difficulties, like my sensory issue (mostly sounds) and my social anxiety (queue at the post office or the doctor, or family dinners: gods of all religions, help me!). They think that I have created my own problems in my minds, and thinking positively will solve anything. The idea of neurological differences is beyond their threshold of acceptance. It took years for them to accept my being gay, it will take years for this, too. Adding up to all this, I probabibly interpret too literally, even if, at this point, I'm not sure. Moreover, after my diagnosis I realized that I often make inappropriate comments and lose my temper easily, which is probabibly what makes friendship so difficult for me. I hope that here I will find other aspies to make friends with! Maybe, among neuroAtypicals we can understand each other more smoothly.

Hi, thanks for the welcome! Yeah, I think that, after the 1980s, Italian cinema has lost a lot in comparison with other countries. I'm not realy knowledgeable in British cinema, but I think it is really good in adaptations from novels, and in general the documentaries are great!
Tennet's Super is quite popular because it's cheap and you get drunk easily, or at least that's why I used to drink it a lot! I've been to the UK just once, in London, and I often think about emigrating there, even if Brexit will probabibly make it more difficult from next year. My dream is a Phd in the UK or the US, we'll see if I manage to get decent grades to be accepted somewhere.

I find interesting that I can't find other aspies with a special interest in economics. There are plenty in the STEM community and probabibly in other fields like psychology or history, but not in Economics.
