... at the age of 45!
Even though I've worked with autistic children in the past, I wasn't educated enough to realize that I could be on the spectrum.
After reading a Facebook post about the signs of female Autism, my jaw dropped. My entire life's memories came rushing in, but I actually felt free after the initial shock wore off.
From playing the same 45 record over and over as a child until the black plastic turned grey to my current OBSESSION with Italian rap (especially Fabri Fibra), as well as researching my interests until complete exhaustion. And OCD. Periodic Limb Movement Disorder... everything is beginning to make sense.
I'm looking forward to getting to know you, here. I'm sure I will spend hours upon hours reading your stories. How has your journey been so far? We're quite an incredible bunch, if you stop to consider our experiences.

Upon reading this title I couldn't help but think of this song:
...I knew some place you hadn't been...
The Wrong Planet Forum!
Now that the initial pun is out of the way, welcome. In my experience this forum isn't great for long reads, most of peoples posts here are rather short and to the point which is what I like. If you want long reads I'd head over to The Mighty's Autism page, most of the tales there are longer. That being said, if you're willing to dig a bit (I'm usually not) there are some nice long stories on this forum.

I'm a newbie - here and to the idea of having Asperger's.
I meant that I'm sure I'll spend a lot of time on this forum, in general. I'm more interested in everyone's personal experiences and successes than the clinical aspect of Asperger's. That could change, though.
Thank you for the welcome, by the way. And the video. I actually watched it.

Wise choice, IMHO. It's not that I have no interest in the science and clinical practice around autism, and there have been professionals that have helped me; but not half as much as the "aha" moments of recognition when talking to autistic folks on the forums. I hope it gives you as much insight (and as many laughs) as it has for me!

Thank you for your feedback.
This week has been a real eye-opener. I feel more hopeful.
I've already had a couple of laughs - good medicine.
It is good to hear you have been found. Congratulations and welcome. I was also diagnosed late and it is good to meet another person near my age. I am 50 and was diagnosed 2 years ago. Thank you for posting.

It's comforting to know we're not alone, so thank YOU for responding. I hope you're doing well since your awakening. ❤️
Hello & Welcome to wrongplanet, as it can be a daunting task to be diagnosed at a later timeline, as I was myself at 29, still feel free to learn any & all that can help you within a friendly environment

Thank you for the welcome. I am trying to stay positive and open minded. I've had quite a few "ah ha!" moments already. I just thought my problems were from the abuse and molestation that happened when I was a little kid. Now, I'm putting together the rest of my puzzle. The picture is coming together.

Glad to hear your ever growing learning & information of autism and so forth.
