Hello.

I'm a father, husband and have autism. I'm here to find some answers and get a better understanding of who I am.

Hey,

Thanks for the welcome and words. I don't know if I'll be here long, I just want to get a better understanding of Autism and why I'm a bit different if you know what I mean? Growing up I always saw the world differently so maybe this could be the answer.

Hopefully I'll find out.

I'm sure you will. I was also only diagnosed as an adult. I've learned a great deal since diagnosis and especially since joining WP.

I hope so. I'm really confused at the moment, I have a wife and three kids who rely on me for nearly everything and now I find I'm Autistic. I haven't told my wife yet, I don't know how she's gonna react. She's always been supportive to me but I don't know how she'll take something as big as this.

I hope I can get help here on WP too.

It's not really such a big deal. I was with my partner for nine years before I was diagnosed and his only wish was that it could have been years earlier so he could have understood the reasons for my quirks! And the guys I was at school with understood me better too and several apologizes for treating me so badly 30 years before!

I'm sure she'll be supportive.

I'm glad everyone's been so supportive of you, you deserve it. The way you welcomed me, you're a nice person and that's a great quality to have.

I have no such quality. I'm a bit of a tough guy, I grew up in a rough neighbourhood and learnt quickly not to be pushed around by others. When things get out of hand I step in to see it doesn't spiral out of control, that's how I met my wife. I saved her from a guy who used to hit her about. I care but I don't think many people like me, sometimes I see them staring and whispering behind my back.
I wish people would see me as a better person. I'm sensitive, I care about people and our world but most people just see me as the silent guy who got involved in lots of trouble and fights ten years ago. But that's not me at all. That's one of the reasons why I'm here, to see who I really am.

Welcome. Did you go through a formal assessment process? How were you able to keep that from your wife? Sorry if those questions are too forward.
